Christmas decorations in the city this year not as good as before?

Featured Replies

Is it just me or does anyone else agree that the Christmas decorations and lights in various shops are a bit sparse and uninteresting this year compared to previous years? Some places like Big C have resorted to using just cardboard cutouts with printed decorations. Exceedingly boring and dull.saai.gif

Inside the central department store on Beach Road the decorations are okay but there is virtually nothing in the public areas from the ground floor up to the top. I never remember it being so sparse as this before and even the window displays on second road have almost nothing in them

Have you informed the pertinent authorities ?

I'll say this Udon Thani's UD town smashes most western cities for the great decorations. 10 out of 10 UD town.

Thailand, a Buddhist country, participates in the Xmas practice of western commercialism and to be in a festive mood for a Christian holiday. Perhaps the decorations seems less festive since the tourist demographic now reflects fewer visitors from Christian countries.

Are Christmas decorations , their quality or how sparse they are becoming , really that important to you ?

Shocking.....but...as far as bad news goes, this is better than most of the news that comes out of Pattaya.

Yes and I am unashamed about it. It's nostalgic because it reminds me of Christmases in the past that were almost enchanting during much happier and less complicated times

If just crossed my mind if the same forces that are desperately trying to kill Christmas in USA are creeping in here? Did you hear about the girl last week in USA who was banned from selling mistletoe in the market because it was illegal even though the guy standing next to her was legally allowed to beg and wear a sign saying “ Got Pot “?crazy.gif

Fair enough , was just curious. There can be a rather enchanting quality to the decorations. Some of the people's homes on the street I live in here in the USA have unbelievably intricate and detailed decoration schemes. Nothing short of incredible , some of these houses during this season. I hope there is a return to a more decorated landscape there where you are Asiantravel. And Merry Christmas to you. Steve

Who cares...this is Thailand, mostly Buddhists, any attempt to "celebrate" Christmas is just a means to extract money. Mmmm, bit like the west now.

Calls for a trip to Singapore.

I hadn`t noticed, Big C did seem to have a lot of Xmas related goods for sale though.

It is not something I celebrate, means nothing to me.

Ideally there should no Christmas decorations anywhere.

Ok the tree i can handle. But the Christmas tunes is what really gets me down.

I thought Russians were primarily eastern orthodox and Christmas was more a religious celebration and less tainted by commercialism and Santa Claus (or whatever you want to call him).
