Strange Yingluck is being condemned...when the real perpetrators are suthep and the democrats...have you not read what suthep and his mob demand...

Indeed. Any idea how Yingluck's family incl. 10 year old son have been threatened (to death). She is a human and humans can show emotion. She well deserves to show emotion after the VERY wise decision not to seek violent action against her own citizens. Abhisit found it necessary to start using his 'rubber' bullets.......

She is always called puppet of Thaksin on this post........any idea how much puppet factor involved for Abhisit towards General Prem?? In politics always puppets; examples enough.......Medvedev - Putin, Blair - Bush, Sein - Burmese Junta...... It does not mean she didn't do her job well. Thailand is not doing bad at all under her 'regime'. Sure Suthep will focus again on this pathetic issue with the (border)temple to distract attention from National Politics. So soldiers, be prepared to sacrifice again. Democrats, if it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious. Jealous pricks.

When was Yingluck's son "threatened (to death)"?

Cool down everyone, Just blowing whistle on her son won kill him.

That would be the incident that the school principle said didn't happen.

I sense a re-run of 2006 coming up. The Democrats might decide to save their money and opt out of the next election completely, arguing that they don't want to waste their time as the Parliamentary opposition throwing papers and chairs around, if there has been no reform of the constitution to enforce much better governance. That would cause problems in constituencies where only one candidate is fielded and can't poll 20% of the votes and Parliament, when it can eventually convene will look like a one party sate, even to Jonathan Head. The Decomocrats would then have nothing to do but lead protests. There was Constitutional Court ruling in 2006 that parties don't have a legal obligation to field any candiadates, after the Thaksin party tried to get them dissolved for that. PT will have to pay the red shirt followers to show up at the polling booths even without opposition and stand a good chance of getting caught and dissolved. No risk to the Democrats, if the don't bother to contest the elections.

What will be most interesting is if the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) criminally convicts all 312 former MP's. That decision should be coming up soon? What then?

The NACC is not a court of law and has no power to convict anyone. The issue is that it could indict them which would mean their suspension from duty. I think that would create a power vacuum. I assume YS and the rest of the cabinet were amongst the 312 or allowed their ID cards to be used by someone else, in which case, I believe, the entire caretaker cabinet would be suspended from duty. The mechanism is for the first deputy PM to take over as PM and then next senior but, this wouldn't work, if virtually all the remaining MPs are gone. Maybe only Bhumjai Thai and Chuwit's party would be left as MPs but I don't think caretaker MPs can elect a brand new caretaker PM. I believe it would result in a constitutional crisis, perhaps the type of unprecedented event for which Article 7 was drafted. Of course the red shirt leaders would cry blue murder (judicial coup) and mobilise their troops to march on Bkk, perhaps leading to clashes with Suthep's protestors and forcing the army to intervene (as they already did very politely at Ram Uni). The army's appearance there seems to have been the reason the red leaders pulled their people out of Ram and later abandoned the plan to rally at Ayudhya. If a couple of squaddies had been killed by red shirts, old wounds wold have been opened for the top brass (notice that Col Romklao's widow is actively posting anti-YS messages) to harden their attitude towards the reds and their PT pay masters.

The NACC is also investigating the rice pledging scheme which could result in the indictment of YS as chairman of the committee but they seem to be dragging their feet on finding enough evidence. Perhaps someone will be motivated to spill the beans on her.

You are assuming that if the Democrats were to run the PTP would still have the power to do what they want in the government with out having to make deals with other parties.

I do not believe that to be what would happen. It is my belief that the PTP will return to the PM office but as a minority government there by having to listen to the opposition.

If the democrats do not run we will be in worse condition than we were when they had seats in the house even though they were pretty well styfiled.

To see a real change in Thailand the Democrats must field the best list of quality candidates they can and the Yellow Shirts must vote.

I am not sure how the Dems will see this one yet, but the resignation of all their MPs could be taken as a threat they might boycott the next election and there is a precedent that this wouldn't result in them being dissolved from the earlier case against them. PT and the coalition parties are well cashed up after 2 years of corruption in government but the Dems have to find their own funding for the election that they have declared is not going to resolve the situation, if there is no reform beforehand. So why would they bother to spend their cash? They could just sit tight and watch the government parties deplete their coffers on an election that might be invalidated like the 2006 election was. Then they are in a more equal position to the other parties if there is another election soon afterwards. Like 2006 the Southern constituencies will be a problem for coalition parties because no one is going to want to stand in areas where they are hated by the local population. Where there is only one candidate getting 20% of the vote will be impossible and would result in endless re-runs, as in 2006, with a huge temptation for PT to bribe people to stand against them and risk getting caught again.

Personally I doubt that the Dems will put up the money to contest the election, if there is no concession at all. If Parliament can actually be convened, they would be forced to remain a street movement in order to represent at least 40% of the electorate who want the Thaksin regime uprooted and that would probably lead eventually to a military coup and maybe civil war.

And her big brother pimped out her as a publicity stunt.

It runs in the family.

Isn't that the story, where the sole source, was a member of the PM's security-detail ? wink.png

So totally impartial & unbiased, then. facepalm.gif

On the NACC, you are correct. It wouldn't be a conviction, but an indictment. In any event, our conclusions dovetail.

On YL, I don't think she is getting a big piece of the pie herself, but blood is thicker than water, hence she is keeping the party together. There may well not be any evidence against her personally. I wouldn't be surprised on this.

Apparently, the going contract rate these days is high. They should be looking at levels below her.
