I have lived here for a while but is still lost when I try to find places when I only have the address, how does it work??? :o

Often an address would look something like this, fictisious address:

329/21 Moo 12, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi 20260

Sometimes the street name is included but just as often it's not.

I assume Chonburi, Banglamung, Nongprue are districts and subdistricts, Nongprue is a subdistrict in Banglamung?

Moo 12 as I understand is then a subdistrict of Nongprue?

329 would be the house or building and 21 would be the unit in that building?

Now, if the address is given without street name, is there only one house with that number in that Moo? And in that case would the number give any clue to where in the Moo it would be?

I have tried to look for a house with a specific number but there do not seem to be any particular order these numbers are allocated, sometimes there are big jumps in number or numbers in wrong sequence?

Have anyone seen any good map on the web where you can see where the different Moo's are?

Any insight to this would be apreciated. :D

My understanding is that for a long time numbers were given to houses as they were built and as such no real sequence to them. I vaugely remember some talk from the government to resequence the numbers to make things more obvious. Massive and confusing task to say the least.

In our area, presumably everywhere, the first number is the "street" within that Moo and the second number is the house. On our new estate all houses are in numerical order, but as tywais suggests, my former property on an older estate had the street number same as everbody else, but the numbers of the houses were in any old order. :o

Street names often do not exist outside big cities.

The post office will know, but asking them to explain is another matter.

To find a house, call the people and ask them to talk you in.

I reckon the only person who knows where every house is located in a given area is the postman. I get all my mail out here in the wilds of Mabprachan.

When I lived in the middle of Bangkok, even the international courier companies couldn't find my house, yet the postman had no probs.

The only hitch is finding the postman. :o

Guess it's not the easiest of jobs in Thailand, being postman :D

However they do manage to get most of the mail delivered...

In my area (same as Mobi's) the house on the opposite side of the street can be in a completely different moo then your own place...

Maybe no problem for the mailman, but a side effect I experienced, was when applying for a phoneline, when the friendly lady at TT&T told me there were no more lines available in moo 5, but quite a few lines were free in moo 3.

Now their computer states that no lines designated for moo 3 can be connected to a house located in moo 5. Even if the distance from the house in moo 5 is only 12 meters away from moo 3... Go figure :o

Looks like I'm lost in LOS then, expected as much. :o

Anyway, I have seen a printed map of Pattaya with all the Moo's outlined, very useful.

Have anyone seen such a map on internet??

Try Costa Rica, in San Jose, the capital, a bank business card said "10 meters east of the Honda dealer". There are street names but no house addresses... They've apparently given street addresses a try some years ago but it did not last.

I live in the building above Fresco Ice Cream, first floor.

I am not sure the postman would find it, which is why I have a PO box,

but the description works for most locals.
