A big tiger jumped out in from of me!

Featured Replies

I am really new to thailand, i live in saraphi in the middle of no where. I love it. But today i walked down the road (a winding jungle like path) to my house

and a massive tiger jumped out into the middle of the road. It growled at me. A blood curdling growl. The tiger was of course 4 times my size and i thanked buddah it was all in my mind... thank buddah.

But i still get neverous walking down these paths because there are still the soi dogs. How ever Im not sure if they are really there, they might be ghosts because when they chase after me snapping at my heels I just keep walking and pretending I dont care. They never bite me, thats why i wonder if they are even there. One day ill reach out and touch one of the dogs. just to see if they are real...

Seeing a big cat in the wild can be exhilarating. While not a tiger, I actually skied into a cougar high up in the Sierras while on a military operation, his hind foot hitting my ski as he broke across my path. I broke tactical silence by shouting out at the guy in back of me if he saw it!

Cougars are more common now, even getting down to Orange County south of LA, but back then, they were quite rare.

I would love to see a tiger in the wild, assuming, of course, that I was not viewed as supper by it.

I've seen wild cats in the Himalayas but a few hundred metres away. Leopards, I think. My chilum was always full to the brim but...

If the Tiger viewed you as supper, then you would not see it.

They actually can get pretty brazen in India and the Sundarbans of Bangladesh (where men venturing out where masks on the back of their heads to try and make tigers think the men are looking in all directions). Often, they make no attempt to hide while they roam villages looking for a goat, but taking a person if the opportunity arises.

Most documented tiger fatalities occur in India, with around 50-60 each year. The number of people killed in the Sundarbans might exceed that with numbers approaching 150 despite the 40 or so official count. In December of 2012, two people were killed and another mauled by a tiger near Yala in Thailand. The husband of the woman who was mauled chased the tiger up a tree and shot it, but the tiger escaped. Two hundred local villagers tried to track it down and capture it, but to no avail.

Then there are the Thai tiger farms. An American tourist was killed in 2007 by a tiger during one of the photo ops.

Getting common, yes. I've seen two on my property, and have no idea how many I didn't see. I think they are nocturnal?

Last year one of them climbed a tree in the middle of a grade school playground not far from me. I don't recall whether the wildlife department shot it or captured it. I seem to remember that they shot it on the basis that it had lost its fear of man, and would remain a danger.

They try to avoid people. Deaths are rare. Only about 20 people have been killed by cougars in the US and Canada in the past 100+ years. That's far fewer than have been killed by lightning or even dog attacks. Link

It's possible that Tigers are more dangerous, with a reported 370,000+ deaths in S and SE Asia in the past 100 years. Ouch. Link

I was thinking shrooms as I've never seen tigers while smoking choom. whistling.gif

Lots of stray pussies hanging about down my way, big ones as well. But they usually go away if they`re ignored. It`s only when passers by start stroking them when serious consequences may occur.

... And the tiger was saying, ' bugger ! another foreign tourist. So much for conservation measures to keep them out. - Triple the visa fee, bring in triple pricing, spike their booze, but get out of my jungle !

In Saraphi it is likely the OP is being affected by the constant ground emissions of Radon gas.
