Newbie questions about 1 year multiple-entry non-immigrant ED visa

Featured Replies

G'day all,

I'm an Aussie male who recently applied for and received a 1 year multiple-entry non-immigrant ED visa. I did this at the Royal Thai Consulate in Brisbane, Australia without any problems as I intend to study Thai in Bangkok. I've had a good look through the forum posts here but just wanted to ask some newbie/basic questions to confirm how this visa works and any requirements of me.

1. I intend to initially travel to Thailand in less than a month.

2. On each entry into Thailand, I should receive 90 days permission to stay. Provided I leave Thailand before these 90 days are up (from the date of entry), I am not required to register with Immigration (or other Govt departments), or advise any addresses etc? I intend to leave Thailand at least once every 3 months on travel to nearby countries before returning.

3. Am I correct in understanding that any registration/address reporting requirements are only required for stays over 90 days and not applicable for less than 90 days?

4. As I hold a multi-entry visa, I am not required to apply for or obtain any re-entry visas before leaving? I can come and go as I like (up to 90 days per entry) for as long as the visa is valid (one year)?

5. No need to apply for "extensions" etc - again - provided I leave once every 90 days (or more)?

Thanks in advance for any advice.. these forums are a valuable asset to those studying, living and working in Thailand!

Cheers,

ptorphy.

All is correct.

Also you can do an entry just before your visa expires and get another 90 days giving you almost 15 months out of the visa.

G'day ubonejoe,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I appreciate it!

I didn't full appreciate you could do that either. Looking at the visa sticker it actually says "Enter Before" (not "Valid To"), so I guess it does make sense now as each entry is for 90 days..

Cheers,

ptorphy.
