BANGKOK, 17 December 2013 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police has launched a campaign to discourage drunk driving in hopes of reducing road accidents.

The campaign, introduced by the Thai Traffic Police, is aimed at raising awareness among drinkers of effects alcohol has on human bodies and discouraging driving when under the influence.

According to Assistant to the National Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Ruangsak Jaritake, this is the second time the campaign has been held in Thailand in an attempt to reduce road accidents and fatalities; following the first campaign which was focusing heavily on strictly enforcing law and punishment against drunk drivers.

This year’s campaign will emphasize on providing information for drinkers and helping them avoiding harming themselves and others around them.

The campaign will kick start on December 20. Entertainment venues and liquor stores that are interested in joining the campaign should contact the Thai Traffic Police at 1197.

Another year another campaign, what will change, nothing, its the same

every year, too many families left grieving because their loved ones

have drunk too much and still think they are fit to drive, then theres the

innocent victims who happen to get in their way.

Its well known Thai drivers are terrible on a good day,add too much

liquor and you don't want to be anywhere near them,if you value your

life.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

That's not an Einstein quote, it's an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) quite cheesy.gif

BANGKOK, 17 December 2013 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police has launched a campaign to discourage drunk driving in hopes of reducing road accidents. An RTP spokesman went on to explain their policy.

"Public executions are the only way to end this horrific scourge of senseless deaths on our roadways so a get tough policy has been mandated. We've issued a shoot on site order to all RTP for all of those committing traffic violations.

Our policy is designed to be in the best interests of this country. Kill as many bad drivers as we can to insure safety for the rest."

What's the latest on the Ferrari-driving drunk who ran down and killed a cop before fleeing the scene and trying to get a servant to take the blame? Is he in jail yet?

I think the better question is..........is he back in Thailand yet or is he still sick in Singapore on his phantom business trip?

But maybe not from Einstein

  • Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.

Maybe a national drunk driving day is in order. Once a month. Drive as fast as you want as drunk as you want to be. Natural selection will run its course from there. Over time the roads will become safer for the rest of us.

It has taken years of education and enforcement in the US to drive down alcohol related offenses and road fatalities. I imagine the same will happen in Thailand, slowly yes, but unfortunately it will never satisfy those that are professional critics of all things Thai.

Putting the beer bottle down is much more difficult for some than thinking before typing.

Damned if they do - damned if they don't. Some people will never be happy. Thailand isn't going to turn into the West overnight. I , for one, hope it never does.

They wouldn't be damned if they actually DID , rather than repeatedly just talk a good game . Anyway ,a campaign shouldn't be just for Xmas ,as the saying goes , it should be a continuous matter ...365 days a year !

Sorry to disagree ,but I believe that emulating the West in terms of road safety measures and thereby lowering the number of road deaths , is in fact, something that should be embraced !

I can notice from the picture in the OP that they take it serious once again, ZERO drunk driving and Zero accidents.

Expect some tables along major roads with some coppers sitting at them drinking beer and not moving their ass, similar to other campaigns during major holidays
