Here you are telling some of us who HAVE been to cities like Baghdad, Kabul, Mexico City etc. how bad Bangkok is........ wrong! In relation to what you saw 10-15 years ago it might look pretty bad, but Chief, in relation to what the rest of the world has to offer, it doesn't even make the Top 25 in "Bad Places to Be Living".

If you're talking about the Mercer study, Bangkok didn't make it intoe the top 25 of "best places to be living." And yes, if I had a family with kids, I would definitely rather live in one of those cities than in Bangkok any day. Bangkok may be fun if you're young and have money to burn, but I couldn't imagine bringing up a family in that kind of environment.

A farang once told me he was an alien because the immigration form described him as such, now I see what he means.

What on earth has that post to do either with the topic matter or with my previous post?

No, can't speak Isaarn. I understand though the northern dialect of my wife's area rather well (not every farang is married to an Isaarn girl). And, yes, i not only know farmers, i even own a 33 rai farm. We do "sittakit por puang", if that means anything to you.

And, yes, i presently have a lot of time on my hands as i feel rather lazy and don't really need to work in order to afford the lifestyle i enjoy. I work when i want to because i enjoy working.

But whatever, you appearantly decided with some other <deleted> that i must be some sort of troll because i don't fit into your stereotypes, therefore whatever i post must be a lie, or dishonest.

Anyhow, if you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute towards the topic of this thread, may i suggest you just shut up, and not let this thread descend into another piss contest. Thank you.

You're lucky to 'own' a 33 rai farm as a foreigner, Colonel, though you should really learn to write Thai words in English correctly, your quote above- เศรษฐกิจพอเพียง written by you as 'sittakit por puang' should be written as 'settakit por piang'- to suggest I don't know about The King's policy of self sufficiency economy implies extreme arrogance on your part.

Your recent revelation on another thead that several of your friends have found rape to be unacceptable in Thailand suggests your regiment is facing severe disciplinary problems.

ColPyat is not a native english-speaker - looks like he is from a German speaking country :o .
Please Mods can we have a new Forum called " Why I hate Thailand"?

It will give a chance for all the whingers, spoilsports & amateur detectives a chance to tell everyone else on that Forum what a terrible, uncouth, lawless place Thailand is.

It will also give us souls who absolutely adore the place some bloody peace.

I just thought I'd wrench us back to the original posters thoughts, as above.

I don't think that there is any need whatsoever to segregate any particular 'disagreeable' topic into a special Forum.

On the other hand, all READERS have the ability to CHOOSE how to react or not react, to such 'disagreeable' posts.

Consider the situation of the incessant whinger, which must be one of being in a constant state of upset. So, who is the one suffering? The whinger, of course...NOT the reader. This is the whinger's personal CHOICE. If a reader CHOOSES to be upset by the opinions of a whinger, then it would be unfair for that upset reader to expect the whinger to CHANGE, just so the reader can no longer feel upset.

Besides, making a special forum will allow people to avoid it, if they CHOOSE to do so. Isn't this the same as CHOOSING TO AVOID A RESPONSE to a disagreeable post? There is no difference.

There's only one thing that needs to change in this situation...THE CHOICE OF REACTION OF THE READER. If you don't like what's on the television, change channels or switch it off but DON'T unfairly penalise others for your inability to CHOOSE your reactions.

"Sticks & stones can break your bones but names (words) can never hurt you"...unless you CHOOSE to be hurt.

Ad hominem, again, and as usual.

You just can't let it go. :D
