i was fairly unimpressed. they seem to have a lot less farang food than the big one near central and the price on a lot of stuff i buy all the time (milk, french fires, orange juice for example) seem about the same as tesco next door

i don't see myself going in there that much

Good for someone with a restaurant/cafe but bad for people wanting to just drive past the f@#k%*g place.

They have basically stolen the second lane of wiset rd.

Considering the <deleted> traffic at Chalong circle, they should have sorted that problem out first before adding another to make it worse!

Lamb and short cut bacon a lot cheaper than Villa Mart and water was cheaper than all the other supermarkets on the opening day

Drove past today and the crowds have gone, quite a few items you can only buy at Villa Mart are cheaper there

I expect that it only has a limited range of foods much like Patong's Makro. Nowhere near the same range as the Phuket Town Makro.

That's true for people wanting household goods but many have said that they no longer need go to makro for their restaurant food needs.

Those guards have hijacked the slow lane to assist shoppers leaving the street parking.

Why the local government let this happen I don't know.

I don't understand what or who this kind of shops are for except supply. Why not only have one supply centre in a central location for all the restaurant/hotel businesses on Phuket!

I feel like running over those two security guards in the middle of the road. They are whistling and stopping cars for no reason. I have noticed in Phuket you just need to put some idiots in uniform with whistles to create Los Angeles style traffic jams. Remove the people and the traffic will sort itself out.

Passed by there yesterday 4 times, all times no problems with guards stopping people, I have the impression that was the first 2 days. Both lanes are open now.

Now all they have to do is remove the pillons in the middle of the road.

I have been shopping at Makro for nearly 7 years now and they have always been OK but since the Thai takeover the Makro where I live now is going downhill.Always out stock of the most popular items and some branded goods replaced with their own brands.

Probably just down to useless stock control but most weekends they are even out of chicken breast, pork loin and even milk.

They always just say come tomorrow.

.Anyone else noticed the change?

Now that is called free enterprise.

Because that would be a monopoly. Without competition, you would have to pay whatever price the monopolist wanted.

Not necessary, the Government could be regulating the prices. (no not this Government)

Perhaps because businesses want a bulk buy shop close to their location. Saves them travel time and fuel cost.

Yes and that free enterprise which mess up the small structure which once was on the island and save a hotel ten bath on ten boxes with Tuna fish helps Phuket a lot. Soon the only buyers would have to come through a tunnel from the mainland.

Don't confuse free enterprise with unregulated enterprise, or regulated but not enforced enterprise.

Three supermarkets now villa mart, tesco and Makro, competition reduces prices

Traffics flowing pretty good at present, chalong circle is the problem

More than a problem these days. Complete nightmare. Another underpass - oh no facepalm.gif

555 life is bliss in Patong. 2 mins on the bike to Makro and 4 to Big C. Why would you want to live in the traffic nightmare of Chalong/ Rawai.

You must be joking. New road closed for road works, Nanai Road clogged up with the extra traffic.

Made my first visit yesterday to Chalong/Rawai Makro. Parking was Ok, busy but a few vacant bays. Better stocked than Patong Makro, more check outs. Quite busy, nearly all farangs. Queues at check outs, only 3 open, 4 (5?) closed. Store reacted well and got another 3 check outs open quite quickly. Cleared the queues in 5 minutes.
