Hi,

About to apply for a non b visa (not teaching).

Three questions.

1. In general is the WP3 receipt of a filed WP application enough to fulfill the requirements for a NON-B Single visa?

I have the rest of the necessarry paperwork.

2. Has anyone successfully applied for a Non B Single visa with a scanned copy of the WP3 receipt?

I would like to avoid the receipt to be snailmailed to me.

3. Best bet for Thai embassies in neighbouring countries?

Im leaning towards HCMC.

Thanks.

Alright.

And Im guessing this letter takes a least a week/month or so to receive?

With the req. the applicant needs to be outside of Thailand during filing, to obtain a non b got increasingly more complicated....

Im on a non ed extension now, how do I easiest obtain a non b?

Many thanks.

You do not have to be outside the country to apply for a work permit. You apply using a WP 1 with all the assorted documents.

The problem you have is the extension for attending school (not ED visa) because most labour offices will not accept the application with this type of extension. Your best option is to go out for a single entry tourist visa and then apply for the work permit.

If your WP filing was successful apart from the non 'b' visa aspect, then a letter of acceptance from your local labour dept can be issued if requested; yes it may take a week or so to get.

You mention being outside of Thailand, this may only be an issue if a WP3 application was made, if you are already in Thailand then the application should be a WP1.

If you have WP3, a photocopy should be fine as the original WP3 or WP1 Receipt must be retained to pick up the WP once the correct visa/90 day entry is obtained.

Required papers for a single entry non immigrant 'B' - see link below:

http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15388-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-(for-Business-and.html

Currently Penang is relatively painless for a single entry 90 day non 'b', but you will need the Letter of Acceptance there.

Most nearby locations now require a letter of approval from the labour ministry. See this webpage for consulate in HCMC: http://www.thaiembassy.org/hochiminh/en/services/2884/34919-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22---To-Work-in-Thai.html

I sent an email to the Thai consulate/embassy in Vientiane and they confirmed that if all other papers where in order, a copy of the WP3 receipt would be enough.

If you have time, then why not get the Letter of Approval as there is no cost involved, then take the LOA plus the WP1 Receipt with you.

The WP1 receipt looks the same as the WP3 receipt, it's an A5 sized generic receipt form just with the WP1 box ticked rather than WP3.

So I could apply with WP1?

Im on a 1 year extension of stay based on studies, but originally the visa I arrived with is a non-o.

If I do apply with WP1 I thought you need an non-b OR extension of stay based on work?

Thus the option would be me going outside of Thailand, employer files WP3 and I would have the receipt sent to me and I apply for the non-b visa.

If I would wait for the LoA, that means I either go back to pick it up here in Bangkok or stay in a neighboring country for a week, which is not really feasible.

Not sure if I can rely on the email reply I got from Laos since there have been reports of applications being denied because of no LoA.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

You do not need any specific visa/entry to apply for a Work Permit - WP1 or WP3, just the correct visa/entry to collect the WP when it is ready.

However there have been reports of Labour in some areas refusing to accept applications on ED visas.

What is more significant is that Labour may not issue your work permit against your education extension, so you may well have to travel to another country to get a fresh non immigrant 'B' Visa and 90 day entry.

Best idea is you go to Labour with a Thai speaker and check that i) your application will be ok with an ED extension and ii) if they will issue the WP against your education extension or not.

If you are already living in Thailand, then your application should be with form WP1 not WP3, no need to leave the country to apply!

You do not need to leave the country to apply. Your employer will use the WP1 to do the application.

You do not need a non-b to apply for the work permit only for it to be issued.

As I said before they may not accept the application because you are on an extension for going to school. If this happens you will need to get a tourist visa first.
