Detained protesters freed on bail

protesters-bail-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The 14 protesters arrested by anti-riot police during yesterday’s clashes at the Bangkok Youth Center (Thai-Japan) stadium were freed on bails today.

The lawyers of the Network of Students and People for the Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) posted cash of 40,000 baht each as bails for the 14 detainees with the First Region Provincial Police Command in Pathum Thani province last night.

All were later freed early this morning.

Among the 14 protesters freed, three were injured.

NSPRT lawyers said they would petition the Human Rights Commission and the National Anti Corruption Commission to take action on malfeasance in office charges. They said that the police brutally beat not only protesters but innocent people when everything seemed to be over and protesters have withdrawn from Din Daeng.

Evidences of brutality and over-acting by the anti-riot police were shown last night by People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban at the Democracy Monument.

A video clip of anti-riot police angrily smashing the windshield of a pickup truck of a volunteer nurse was shown despite that the truck was parked outside the stadium.

Suthep discredited claim by the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) head Surapong Tovichakchaikul that the police have adopted international standards in dealing with protesters and accused protesters of resorting to use force with the police.

He said the video clip clearly showed the brutality of the anti-riot police reasoning that the incident happened at about 5 p.m. when the seizure of the Din Daeng stadium has been over and election registration also ceased since morning.

Evidence recovered by a senator at the Din Daeng stadium showing more than a hundred of live shotgun cartridges, tear gas guns were found inside.

Suthep said that the tear gas guns had been banned for use with protesters as they were powerful and could cause serious injuries and deaths.

He said these guns were used with yellow-shirt protesters during the anti-government protests of former prime ministers Samak Sundaravej and Somchai Wongsawat. These guns were banned but now were brought to use with protesters.

Suthep said this merely showed that the caretaker Yingluck government had the intention to suppress protesters by force.

You're an idiot suthep. I think you and your thugs are using greater violence than the police and it is you and you alone who is itching for full on confrontation and not the government.

So it was the police who kicked the living <deleted> out of the taxi driver and then they started shooting themselves. My apologies I thought it was Suthep and his thugs who did this.

well... what you see is not always what actually (might have) happened:

There were reports & pictures yesterday of protesters stealing police riot gear. Were the videos I posted last night protesters not police?

How about that group of people in black shooting people from the roof top of the other building? you think Suthep sent them too. Think whatever you like! People are not stupid.

Ok I agree with you 100% it is the police causing all the problems and beating up taxi drivers and turning their weapons on themselves. Yes I agree with you and it was a little silly of me to think these calm, mild friendly smiling yellow shirt elites would ever cause trouble.

Are we now in the twilght zone of tweety pie conspiracy theory ??? really ? coffee1.gif

Protester release on bail. But any conditions like they can not attend the protester. I doubt it the judges are corrupt as Suthep.

As they were arrested at the stadium they have a pretty solid alibi in the case of the taxi driver. But don't let facts spoil your propaganda.

"Suthep said that the tear gas guns had been banned for use with protesters as they were powerful and could cause serious injuries and deaths.
He said these guns were used with yellow-shirt protesters during the anti-government protests of former prime ministers Samak Sundaravej and Somchai Wongsawat. These guns were banned but now were brought to use with protesters."

And there was me thinking that it was the fact that the tear gas cannisters used in 2008 were cheap chinese manufactured ones that contained RDX

Thai riot police officers used a cheap Chinese tear gas, which contained an explosive powerful enough to rip craters in the ground, http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/14/world/asia/14briefs-POWERFULGASU_BRF.html?_r=0

and all along it was the guns that were at fault.

Suthep, a man whose words are worth...............

Maybe they dont know, Police use real bullets and acting very aggressive...Credulous people, thats where the mob is made from...coffee1.gif And the Taxi driver...sorry, but the same would happen to him if he insults police...Shit happens...

Rocket Scientists. Let 14 thugs out on bail so they can get back to a protest that has had people killed.

BANGKOK, Dec 27 - Police on Friday released 14 anti-government protesters arrested during clashes with police at the election registration venue yesterday which left one police officer and one protester dead and more than 150 others injured.

All 14 protesters were charged with obstructing the election process, intruding into state offices and gathering more than ten people to instigate unrest. They were released on bail early today after posting bond.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Erawan Emergency Medical Service Center reported the clashes between police and protesters led by the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) at the Thai-Japanese sports stadium in Bangkok's Din Daeng district yesterday, resulted in one police officer dead and 143 other persons injured.

The slain policeman, shot in the chest, was identified as Pol Sen Sgt Maj Narong Pitisit, 45, from Talat Phlu police station.

Among those injured, four including one woman, were seriously hurt and remain hospitalised. An NSPRT protester security guard was shot in the head and underwent surgery at Ratchawithi Hospital. Another one was shot in the chest through the abdomen, one with a fractured skull and an open wound in his head.

The seriously injured woman was shot in her left chest with bullet piercing through her lung.

Meanwhile, Medical Services Department director general Dr Suphan Srithamma updated the number of casualties, saying the death toll has risen to two. A seriously wounded man in his 30s, shot in his chest, was pronounced dead at hospital today. Overall there are 153 injured persons with 38 still hospitalised, 36 in serious conditions.

Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said the party-list candidacy registration has continued since 8.30am today, the last day, amid tight security. No police reinforcements have been requested since it it believed that there would be no further clashes. (MCOT online news)

So now the score is 1 to 2 bottom of the second, anti-government protesters at BAT. Winner takes all.

So on the one hand you're defending the actions of the mob because the taxi driver "would" have gotten a kicking if he had been insulting the police and on the other you're decrying the aggressiveness of the police against protestors who I very much doubt were singing Jingle Bells and passing out the mince pies.

Shit happens as you'd say.

"He said these guns were used with yellow-shirt protesters during the anti-government protests of former prime ministers Samak Sundaravej and Somchai Wongsawat. These guns were banned but now were brought to use with protesters."

Oh Suthep forgot he use much more violent weapons against the red in 2010...

This mad dog needs to stop being completly lunatic.

He s opposed to elections, he ask his thugs to forbid the entrance for the registration...well he deserves to rot in jail and the quicker the better.

He just want more mayhem in bangkok

Same same both Red and Yellow protesters.

Two of the same kind.

All these protests have achieved very little. They can protest fro dawn to dusk but for what...Yingluck is going nowhere, Then ask who benefits from escalating the violence in a hope of rousing the army. The escalation, beatings and bullets are all coming from the Suthep Mob

agree.

yingluck (Thaksin) isnt so stupid to use live bullets against the mobs. if the PT manage to stay calm throughout this incident. you can guess who will be the overall winner.

men in black on top of buildings: if there is a need of snipers, i m very sure thaksin's wealth is enough to get a "real" professional sniper to get rid of suthep/ mark.

No problem my fiend, water off a ducks back. I simply say I agree with you and you are 100% correct and they go away happy as they assume they have won and then there is no pissing contest. I don't get offended, guess that is why I have been around so long on here. Every person is entitled to an opinion and on some subjects we may disagree but on others we probably back each other.

Didn't the men in black 1st rear their heads during the 2010 demonstrations and International journo's were shot along with others? Hasn't Suthep again condemned international journalists for not supporting his cause? Personally I think this blackshirt thing has Suthep stamped all over it. I believe they are his personal creation to create havoc.

agree.
