1ma Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I broke the GF's point n shoot. A Sanyo x1400. I think she paid 2500b 3 years ago. I better buy a new one. Up to say 5000b. Any good models out there in this price range nowadays? Thanks.
MJP Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 17,000 Baht should get you a Fuji X20. That's the lowest we can recommend here.
desmondspencer Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 can get tons.... get anything sony, they'll appreciate the brand gesture
A1Str8 Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 You can get a certain Nikon model for a bit less than 5k. If she ain't impressed with a Nikon then just get her a paper and a pencil and tell her to draw. 1
1ma Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 You can get a certain Nikon model for a bit less than 5k. Any model name to go with that? Cheers.

Do a Google search on Nikon P & S cameras available in LOS in your/her price range. Or try here for starters...http://www.digital2home.com/en/ Or here...http://www.zoomcamera.net/Digital-Camera/ At D2H you can get her a Fujifilm FinePix S4800....for 5.6K baht....fairly good camera too. Or a Canon PowerShot A2600...for 3,990 Baht in pink colour! 1
1ma Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 ^ Thanks. This has actually caught my eye from your first link: http://www.digital2home.com/en/view-product.php?product_id=35704 But now looking, your one is better. (16m megapixels Vrs 12m) http://www.digital2home.com/en/view-product.php?product_id=35310
MJP Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Don't get any small camera with a megapixel count higher than about 10 megapixels. More megapixels does not mean better image quality. It's about sensor physics and pixel density.

It's about sensor physics and pixel density. Is there a name and count for these on the spec list? For example SP:150, PD: 117 And then you can quickly see which one is best in that department?

This is going to sound very camera snobby, but it's not meant that way. I have absolutely no idea about pocket cameras these days. You might try and find a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 or Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1.
sunshine51 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Don't even worry about sensor size & pixel density & all that shit...or are you buying this for yourself? I doubt your GF would know the difference between 5Mp & 50Mp. Buy her that pink one....spend the day in bed with her. 2
tw25rw Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Get her a little waterproof compact that she can take out during Songkran. 2
1ma Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 Get her a little waterproof compact that she can take out during Songkran. We usually go back to her home in Korea during that week.
1ma Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 I doubt your GF would know the difference between 5Mp & 50Mp. Just asked her, and indeed she does.
bpaiduay Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Nikon Coolpix is a great little point and shoot with a host of features 16 Mp , 7times zoom and comes in colours , wont go there . Takes a great pic and maybe only 3k bht. 1
tw25rw Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Maybe a new mobile phone. They have great cameras these days. 2

Canon, Nikon & Panasonic Lumix come to mind. Personally I like Canon's G series Powershots with an optional Canon FA-DC58B filter adaptor so I can use 58mm filters on a camera that ordinarily will not take any filter. However I know they're a bit over the top in pricing...unless you want to go that way. Oh...by the way...you wouldn't be able to buy a 50Mp Hassie for 5K Euro...maybe 10K Euro less any lens. I just sold my H4D-50 in Hong Kong last month with 3 lenses due to under-utilisation for 32K Euro...it was 2 years old in "as new" condition...just FYI.
MJP Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hasselblad can be had for £1500!!!! http://www.johnlewis.com/hasselblad-stellar-camera-hd-1080p-20-2mp-3-6x-optical-zoom-3-lcd-screen/p857154?kpid=232606581&s_kenid=6c7c107d-81bb-09a9-9b92-000025f71d19&s_kwcid=ppc_pla&tmad=c&tmcampid=73 Just awful.

MJP....Please Don't be deceived by this camera...it is not a Hassie even though the Hassie name is on the camera...Hassie did a deal with the Japanese and added some "wood" to make the Hassie name available to the masses who cannot afford a REAL Hassie! Pictures below... Fake Hassie... * * * * Real Hassie... If my mamary serves me right I think the deal was done with Sony. Panasonic would have been a better choice imo.
MJP Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 ^^ I know Bruv! Hasselblad has recently employed an accountant named Dereck it seems. EDIT: Definitely on the Panasonic LF-1. I miss my LX5. 1
tw25rw Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I saw something saying that the little Hasselblad compact was included if you bought one of their new pro cameras.. So the OP could get 2 for the price of 1.. 1
sunshine51 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 ^^^ I hope his accountant isn't named Dereck! I read something about the HassieSony too but if me mems are proper tonight & that's a bit debatable at this moment the "special" was only for the new H5D in some bazillion Mp config. Mind you I kinda miss my H4 but... well...I'd rather it go to a person who will use it to the max than have it sit in my dry box for...who knows how long. Happy New Year Y'all..

It's the sort of thing you rent when needed I guess. We keep a quite a few million quids worth of excavators and dumpers and wotnot, but when we need the very specialist plant we hire it in, sometimes from mainland Europe. It's all about optimum allocation of capital. Happy New Year
sunshine51 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 ^^^ That's why my capital was relocated to where it does it's best! HNY!!!
