N Korean media rally for Kim Jong-un on 2nd anniversary in power
By English News

SEOUL, Dec 30 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's state media urged people to rally around the monolithic leadership of Kim Jong-un on Monday as the country marked the second anniversary of Kim's rise to power as the top military commander.

Kim became the supreme commander of the 1.1 million-strong military as he took over the country in late 2011 when his father and long-time leader, Kim Jong-il, died suddenly of a heart attack.

The North's main newspaper, the Rodong Sinmun, urged North Koreans to rally around Kim, calling his assumption of the military's top job the biggest revolutionary event in the country.

The latest appeal came weeks after a political upheaval in the communist nation during which the North executed Kim's once-powerful uncle, Jang Song-thaek, on charges of treason. Jang had long been considered the North's No. 2 man and the leader's regent.

With North Korea experts saying the latest purge of the ranking official was likely aimed at consolidating the young Kim's grip on power, the state-run media have since dialed up lavish praises on Kim. He has been referred to as "another illustrious commander" of Mount Paektu and "the most distinguished brilliant commander in our era."

North Korea has said Kim carries the country's royal bloodline, called the Mount Paektu bloodline.

The North claims the mountain, the highest peak on the Korean Peninsula and located on the Sino-North Korean border, is the sacred birthplace of Kim Jong-il, though historians and foreign officials have said he was born in Russia. (Yonhap)

True TV used to carry the official NK state channel on their system. It was fascinating to watch. The news readers deliver their lines with great trembling emotion. I have no idea what they are saying, of course, but it's not like Fox or BBC, that's for sure.

I wouldn't want to be the new #2 in that miserable country.

Meanwhile, Chinese officials on the China side of the Yalu river border, continue to arrest and detain N.Korean refugees and either jail them or send them back to N.Korea for probably summary death. Either way, the refugee's family will get severely punished also. Chinese officaldom could easily let the miserable escapees slip off to S.Korea, but instead, the Chinese are complicit in exacerbating the misery of N.Koreans.
