I thought that most long term posters would know that when seeing the Big Smoke mentioned in a TV forum would think that the poster was talking about Bangkok, but I'm guess I'm wrong, as apparently a monitor didn't know where it was.

Wow, Bangkok is not mentioned. Although it is more commonly called the Big Mango, I have heard it called the Big Smoke, and when I read in a Thai related forum that "the college girls are home from the Big Smoke, I just naturally think the poster means Bangkok

Don't believe everything you read in Wikipedia it is an open source encyclopedia,

any one could post anything, and that post will stand, until it is corrected by some one else

Politicians have being known to have minions go to their opponents page and post misinformation,

For instance in the "big smock list" it includes New York, I live there most part of my life, and I have never heard any one refereed to NY as such, It is always referred to as "The Big apple" and to a lesser extend by some terms I dare not repeat in open forum.
