Thai Embassy in Hull UK no not taking debit card payments

Featured Replies

Below is the email I got presuming for the Thai embassy, is this for real or a scam or what? I was applying for a triple entry visa which I have done before. (there is sufficient money in the account)

Why arn't they accepting debit card payments? Any thoughts on the topic? How long will all this take so I know when to book flights?

Dear Mr *******

We have received your visa application but unfortunately we are no longer able to accept card payments. Could you therefore please let us have cheque or postal order for £85, made payable to A P Taylor, who is the Thai Consul here in Hull? If sending a postal order, please ensure your name is on the reverse.

Many thanks

Regards

Royal Thai Consulate

Probably legitimate.

A pity they don't just have a bank account number you can transfer the funds directly into.

They stopped taking card payments on 1 Nov 2013. This was due to bank policy on "cardholder not present" transactions.

The new forms state that they no longer take debit card. Send cash with your passport and application via Special Delivery post. It will cost around 6 pounds. This type of postage will cover you for any loss, which won't happen.

I am not 100% sure that sending cash is a good idea. I am very sure Hull would not encourage this. There is a chance they may flat out refuse to accept cash in the post. Try a cheque, there is no extra charge for writing a cheque.

They do I put it on their form, that was the whole point....I don't get it

I emailed them 2 days ago before sending my form explaining I had seen a post on here etc and explained that I cannot send a cheque as I don't have any and that I am putting it on my dad's credit card via the form they replied saying this is fine and they accept it that's why this whole thing confuses me so I'm going to include their email reply with my application

I was under the impression all Thai consulates in the UK no longer accepted postal applications for visas.

Maybe if a given "friendlier" consulate is being helpful by bending rules it isn't a good idea to spread the word so publicly, or it may stop.

I agree they may well not want cash, but what's the big deal about getting a postal order?

Surely a bank cheque would also work?

They indicate that a cheque will be accepted there is, however, some delay in clearing a cheque for payment.

A postal order is as good as cash !

Bank cheque paid for in advance at the counter, no need to wait for clearance just like a postal money order.

You can get a visa in about 5 minuets in Hull , Just ring them before and tell them you will be arriving in about an Hour,

As long as you have two photos and cash Money. I was in there last year, I met a man who had flown from Thailand and was getting back on a plane in Manchester about 6 hours later.

I remember when all was needed was a trip to "the Wall" off Mahesak.
