Pheu Thai to approach court over southern candidates

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- THE PHEU THAI Party will go to court today to protect the right of its 29 southern candidates to contest the February 2 election after authorities refused to extend the registration period.

The 29 hopefuls were prevented from registering in eight southern provinces before the last day on January 1 due to protests by supporters of the People's Democratic Reform Committee.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said the 29 candidates would assign their lawyers to seek an injunction at the Supreme Administrative Court at 10am today, citing the MPs and Senators Election Act and the Administrative Court Act.

If the balloting in the eight provinces cannot be held on February 2 along with the other provinces, it might violate the charter requirement for all constituency polls to be held on the same day, he said.

Pichit Chuenbarn, a Pheu Thai party-list candidate and legal expert, said the party and the 29 candidates had already done their part by trying to file their applications as required by law, but the Election Commission had failed to make the necessary arrangements.

The EC should have changed venues so that the 29 candidates could have submitted their applications but the EC would not heed the government's advice, he said.

If the Supreme Administrative Court rejects the petition, Pheu Thai would pursue other legal channels.

"We will fight in all courts to defend the rights of our candidates," he said.

Thanawut Wichaidith, a Pheu Thai candidate for Surat Thani, said the EC and its provincial committees in the southern provinces were not taking their jobs seriously to successfully organise candidacy sign-ups.

PDRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban should stop acting like a political hooligan now, he added.

Seems reasonable to me. Why should the candidates pay the price for others breaking the law? coffee1.gif

In yet another blinding yet desperate initiative, Pheu Thai are now effectively taking the Election Commission to court. There is no reasonable expectation that any court would register candidates for any constituencies outside the authority of the EC. Pheu Thai really has no idea what it's doing, and are now shooting from the hip so incessantly that they are in danger of dislocation. And there is no way - even if miraculously the court decided it could place PT candidates in these constituencies - that anything other than a resulting massive " no " vote would quell the leading ( or only ) candidate. This parliament will not be able to constitutionally open. It's as simple as that. And it is very hard to see any further elections or by-elections altering that result in any shape or form. The Yingluck administration is for all intents and purposes finished.

So EC have to follow the rules, and the government complains when they say to postpone the election 'oh no that is against the rules' but when the EC refuses to break the rules to suit the PT crooks, they are condemned. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Just serves to demonstrate how the PT crooks think they are above the law and everyone should do what they want regardless of the legality. This is why they must be forced to leave if necessary...Those who condemn he anti government protestors for 'breaking the law', take a long hard look at the actions of the PT and their followers party first...When PT took power, reds were famously quoted as saying 'Now we can do what we want', seems to be the way Thaksin works...

So, let me get this straight: We have a group of thugs who use force to prevent people from registering as candidates for an election. And you become terribly upset at... people trying to rectify this? Let me guess, we need "reform*" and to "end corruption*" before you accept letting people register as candidates?

*A.k.a. rigging the electoral system in favor of the Democrats.

Thanawut Wichaidith, a Pheu Thai candidate for Surat Thani - a very polite way of saying 'loser'.

Very possibly, but doesn't he have the right, under the Thai Constitution, to stand in an election called by Royal Decree, and lose if it so happens?

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit

a convicted criminal, convicted in two instances, now free on bail

December 12, 2013

The Appeals Court on Thursday sentenced Pheu Thai party spokesman Prompong Nopparit and another Pheu Thai member to one-year imprisonment without suspension after finding them guilty of defaming the former president of the Constitution Court.

No criminals and/or corrupt people on electoral lists!

No criminals and/or corrupt people in government, parliament or as a civil servant!

Exclude from now on, all persons from the Parliament and from electoral lists which

a have criminal records.

b running free on bail.

c were already banned from parliament in the past.

d against are corruption or crime cases opened.

The Constitutional Court is the most corrupt of the bunch. What makes them outside of criticism? They are the root cause of all this political turmoil.
