A-holes...trillions for wars in the Middle East and extortionate fees for simple paperwork services!

If you are an average citizen, you're expected to pay to make such services cover at least a part of the cushy salaries & benefits for those employees in the State Department.

If you're a CEO who has mismanaged a failed bank, the average citizens will also pay to cover your incompetence and soothe your feelings with a multi-million dollar salary no matter how many people lose their jobs and investments and, as you mention, the citizens will pay for a pointless war or two, both financially and through the loss of life.

That's democracy in all its glory. Sometimes it makes you wonder if what's happening in the streets of Bangkok these days ( and what happened in the US back during the 60's and 70's) is such a bad idea. Even if it is somewhat counter-productive, it might just make you feel like the message is sinking into the densest politician or bureaucrat.

Where can one sign up to receive notices such as this?

Thanks,

You get them automatically by enrolling in the Department of States Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). If you dont have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Or you can check the schedule for the current Fisical Year here.

So your location can be reported to the IRS and be tracked by the NSA...no thank you!

I started enrolling, but they just ask for way too much info IMO.

Is it too hard to just have a space where a person can enter their email address to receive updates?
Oh, nevermind; it is the gubbmint running it (I feel fine saying that, because I have worked for the DoD & DoS). Work harder, not smarter!

I can't wait for Obamacare!

But, BB1950 (OP), thanks for the info.
