Suthep threatens to capture five caretaker Cabinet members, Pheu Thai secretary-general

The Great Leader has finally come up with something even the Red Shirts at their prime in 2010 wouldn't dare imagine.

Now that creates a bit of a problem for the anti-Government supporters in this forum because each time when the Great Leader came up with something unacceptable, their would be "legal precedents" that they could rely upon, with compliments of the Red Shirts, to deflect the wrongfulness of the conduct.

Now the Great Leader is simply on a frolic of his own.

Suthep threatens to capture five caretaker Cabinet members, Pheu Thai secretary-general

BANGKOK: -- Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, Tuesday threatened to capture five caretaker Cabinet members.

Suthep alleged that the five ministers and Pheu Thai secretary-general Phumtham Wechayachai were the ones who encouraged Yingluck Shinawatra to remain in her position as the caretaker prime minister.

The five ministers are Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung, Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnog, Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang, and Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi, Suthep said.

Did I hear that right?

Yep he wants kidnapping adding to the list of charges he already faces

Let's see on the charges...

Murder - check

Insurrection - check

Kidnapping - pending

Not talking about all the civil charges (Defamation, etc) - though here defamation can be a criminal offence as well......

Is somebody bored enough to keep a list? Might be amusing....

And who did he murder?

Thaksin has not yet faced charges for the few thousand murders, including assassinations of political opponents that he ordered/carried out. Oh yes. Off course, you ideologues have tunnel vision.

God I love Thai politics !!!! Make western countries look really boring by comparison.

I certainly agree with his overall stated goal of ridding Thailand of corruption and the cancer

that Thaksin represents, but this sure seems like an odd path to threaten kidnapping people.

This move is certain to lose him some support.

Maybe the red shirt sycophants on TV visa were right, this guy may really be a bit loony.

Edit....... wait a minute , I just read the list of potential kidnap victims, and I see Charlerm's

name on the list. Yes, by all means go ahead and kidnap them, would be a refreshing change

for him to be quiet..

stupid move if he does, this is a peaceful protest, nothing more, this will turn it around to suit the ptp very well. He needs to re think this entirely or he will ruin what has been started, this is about the people, not his ego.

It is a stupid move. It is a stupid suggestion, but it has never been about the people.

He is becoming increasingly desperate - threats to close down the SET, blockade Aerothai's air traffic control centre (guarded by the army) to close Thai airspace, and now kidnapping members of the caretaker government. Each is a step closer to anarchy. I only hope that those who are backing him have the sense to see where this is going and stop it now, before he gets his Reichskristallnacht, but I will not wait with bated breath.

It would appear that Suthep is now clutching at straws, the Bangkok shutdown while successfully shutting down areas of the city has not got him any closer to his goals.

As long as the PTP and the police leave the protesters alone the movement losses momentum as protesters desert to go back to work and the people of Bangkok start to lose their patience.

Now its a case of doing whatever they can to get the blood spilling for the coup Suthep has wanted from the beginning.

Suthep IS getting to his goals. Yingluck has assigned her icecream gang to hold meetings with all parties concerned to see if the elections can be delayed. Now Suthep, strategically, is going for the next step.

Suthep doesn't want a coup. He wants Yingluck to give in. The army also wants Yingluck to clean up her own mess. Thaksin wants a coup in order to blame the army for interfering with democracy.

By the way, in case you were wondering, this is Yingluck's ice cream gang.

Have a wander around Bangkok. It's a mild inconvenience for most of the city. It's actually quite pleasant for many of us - empty streets and ease of travel. You'd have to be wearing very rose tinted glasses to see yesterday and today as a success or anything close to it. The Silom protest is down to less than 1000 and is having no effect on the area at all. Asoke is still busy but thinning.

It's a waiting game and only one person has a time constraint on the amount of time he can wait - it ain't Yingluck. This is desperation on Suthep's part no matter how hard you try and spin it.

It's a sad day for Thailand when one of its leaders threatens to 'capture' cabinet ministers. Also sad that a lot of foreign residents seem to think it's funny ( ...although funny from embarrassment or humour is not yet clear)

It's deemed to be ''funny'' in the sense that it is totally incredulous!

I doubt that this group would be worth the effort to kidnap. Now if the plan was to surround and confine all 'cabinet meeting' members, in a single hiddey hole, cut off their outside communication, and let them tolerate each other for a good while, something positive for Thailand might be accomplished.

They would be sleep deprived, suspect/fearful of any foods and liquids arranged by the other members, and determining the spokesperson would be a real cat fight. It would not take long for them to be at complete logger heads with each other, when deprived of their favorite past times, "rape, pillage" of a nation. It could even be secretly recorded under a reality show format, as required viewing for all wannabe/potenial politicans.

I can only assume that those so loudly condemning Suthep for this action were equally, if not more, outraged at the call to kidnap or murder Payuth's daughters. I will have to check the thread, and reset the scale on my hypocrisy meter.

So?

If that is real -and I say that very carefully- it makes perfect sense!

You may hate Thaksin all you want, but he is not stupid!

Every door, Suthep tried to run down, was opened for him.

You want to camp out at Democracy Monument? Be my guest!

You want to storm Government House? Welcome in!

You want to shutdown Bangkok? Go ahead!

He has not many options left, to get the violence, he so desperately needs!

The government will not hand over power to hies "people"- and why would they?

As I said on another thread: where will he go from here, to get what he wants?

Even if I am not taking any numbers at face value, it is obvious, that the number of people following him, are not that impressive anymore...and far from "millions"!

The Reds stay home, the Army can not move in, as long as there is no blood on the streets (8 or 10 dead over 3 months -sarcasticly- is not enough) ...so now what?

Airports or personal threats!

*Picture edited out*

Delaying elections merely gets the Democrats and Suthep back to square one where they were weeks ago when elections were first announced.

They arent any closer to Suthep's unelected reform council (I refer to a council stacked by the PDRC, not any reform council) which will in all likelyhood never happen.

Even if Yingluck resigns and someone takes over as caretaker PM Thaksin's influence still remains within the PTP. Yingluck is simply unable to "give in" to Suthep's satisfaction, unless his goals are solely revenge against Thaksin and the PTP.

Thaksins influence is harder to erase than simply ousting his sister, even if no one directly related to Thaksin ends up as PTP leader rest assured he will still be the one running the show.

Simply put Suthep's stated goals vary from unlikely to practically impossible (without a coup that is), however that being said none of us know what he and his backers real goals are.

Lets face it, they will probably all end up in prison anyway after the law reforms and the exposure of their crimes of graft and corruption.

But it is one thing for the SG of the PTP to say something, and a completely different thing for it to actually have been said.

My money is on this being yet another lie to discredit Suthep and the PDRC, why change a habit of a lifetime??

I live in the area. Day time fairly quiet and nighttime full with people. Yesterday evening was very busy everywhere. Loads of images on The Nation of the crowds. Today should be the same and it will intensify when the weekend approaches.

Sadly it's only a threat. If there would be a corruption blacklist or something in Thailand, these 5 guys would be in the top 10.

Nickymaster,

Perhaps you should take a quick look at this guy's history of corruption and do a re-think,,,

1995 land title deeds in Khao sam liam, Kamala, and in Phuket.

2009 Disqualification as MP accused of violating the Thailand constitution by holding equity in a media firm,

Murder charges relating to 2010,

and now threats to kidnap five government officials,

and an oxygen thief.(unofficial but herd it mentioned)whistling.gif

He has no respect for foreigner's so why do you support this person???????????????????????????????blink.png

Have you taken a look at the Cabinet member's criminal histories he's accused of threatening to kidnap? Why are you so one sided?

Thaksin's attempt to threaten Yingluck with being thrown into prison yesterday so she ( he ) could cling on - was not a particularly brotherly thing to do. One assumes he doesn't have her welfare at heart, with such clap-trap. Press sources have indicated that she wanted to step down yesterday. But Thaksin ( yes, the man who PT supporters insist has nothing to do with this administration ) would have nothing of it. Chalerm has been a waste of space in every capacity he's been placed in. And no one on the planet has issued more empty threats than he, which none of the supporters of this administration take the slightest note of. So when others pose empty threats - well ! they must really mean it ! Get protection for Chalerm, quick ! When in fact, nothing of the kind will happen. And everyone knows it. The sad thing for Chalerm - is that after the administration has quietly stepped down, no one's going to be paying the slightest attention to him. This protest has had three distinct and consistent characteristic : Peaceful. Peaceful, Peaceful. The supporters of this administration really can't stand that. They can't eat their breakfast. And so it will remain a peaceful demonstration. No one will apprehend anyone. In this country particularly. Never happened, never will. But fear not. There is still time to pray for a stillborn parliament. Still time to pray for perpetual dissolution. For those who consider that just peachy, good for you. The rest of Thailand will carry on, however, blissfully waving flags as they are, blowing whistles, and beaming broadly for a country they believe can be free of corruption.

"This protest has three distinct and consistent characteristic : Peaceful, Peaceful, Peaceful."

I wonder if the family's and friends of the dead, the bashed taxi driver, and all the injured would agree with you? have another think about it mate

That is a very boring CV for a Thai Politician who has been around for decades....mate! Two cases the last 18 years and some trumped up charges from Tharit from the DSI.

yes, I guess that's the point. I'm usually in a position of defending Thailand when overseas/foreign critics say something negative. I'm running low on explanations/excuses...,.,

Have you taken a look at the Cabinet members histories's he's accused of threatening to kidnap? Why are you all so one sided?

Everyone sided here.

When a red shirt threatened to kidnap Army Chief, one side spit venom (with all the reasons), but then, Suthep threaten to kidnap 5 cabinet members and you guys approve?

It's a real shit. Threats like those are both to be condemned and punished! And whoever supports those threats have problems to relate to a civil and democratic society.

No we aren't all one sided at all.

For example: Where's the evil in opposing David Cameron?
