January 14, 201412 yr Like the title suggests, I'm hoping someone can tell me where I can buy a small can of kerosene in Chiang Rai. Thanks Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
January 15, 201412 yr What do you need it for? Is there a substitute? In colder climates kerosene heaters are popular, and there are kerosene lamps that need it. It is JetA fuel at the airport if they'll sell you some.
January 15, 201412 yr Back in the day I used to buy it in 20 liter drums for my "kero" heater, most servos/petrol stations had a pump. It's not something you see a lot of now though.

January 16, 201412 yr Diesel works fine for cleaning bike chains, in my experience. Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
January 16, 201412 yr My mechanic taught me a neat trick. Diesel - Tide (or whatever powdered detergent) and water. Put this in a plastic bottle and shake vigorously to make an emulsion. I would recommend mixing the detergent with water first and the add the diesel. Use this to clean my bike chain as well. Works like a dream. Also easier to clean your hands afterwards.
January 16, 201412 yr Sounds like a degreaser is needed, diesel for sure and I used to be able to buy cheap spray cans of degreasing fluid.
January 17, 201412 yr Chain degreasers like those made by Finish Line are too expensive. If that is what you want - go to Fat Free near that big Doi Chang joint at the center of town.
January 18, 201412 yr Author Thanks, if no luck with Kerosene I'll try the diesel concoction although I seem to remember reading it may damage the o/x rings, will look it up.
January 20, 201412 yr I bought some kerosene about 2 years ago at the petrol station (I think it was the Shell on the highway near Fang Min). I put "kerosene" into my dictionary on my phone and they knew what I wanted. It's not in a branded bottle. They have a big drum of it and they put some into an old PET drink bottle. I think it was about 100 baht for the bottle.
January 23, 201412 yr Author Popular Post Finally found some at the paint store on the super-highway, heading south it is about 200mtrs on the left after the King Mengrai traffic lights. It is pronounced 'namaan gaat' in Thai.
