PDRC must 'face up to being a minority': Thirayuth Boonmee

webfact

The protesters are not "rich and educated". This is a myth you can read in Western media with their black/white reporting style.

Go and see yourself, most of the protesters are common people, lots of bored housewives and the southeners carried in. While Suthep and his circle belong to the upper classes, it is not the average protester.

BBC reported more than 6 millions on the street in Bangkok itself, and you call that minority?

We have not even counter those who did not come out, at work, overseas, and those outside Bangkok.

Easily adds up to 10 times that figure.

Nick loves to quote everyone and always have a comment to make. I think he has the hots for me. He love to follow and quote me. wai.gif alt=wai.gif pagespeed_url_hash=3808308681 width=20 height=20>

I hardly quote posters, only if I see statements that seem to be impossible. Like I said earlier, that is very common on forums.

Sorry Nick, I don't date paid posters.

OK. Let me do the math. 10 x 6 million. Wow 60 million support the PDRC. Not bad considering the total population of Thailand is 69.52 million.

First you say that all protestors from the south are thugs.

8) Not to post extremely negative views of Thailand or derogatory comments directed towards all Thais.

And now you are trying to say that I am gay and paid to post.

4) Not to flame fellow members.Flaming will not be tolerated. 'Flaming' is defined as posting or responding to a message in a way clearly intended to incite useless arguments, to launch personal attacks, to insult, or to be hateful towards other members. This includes useless criticism, name-calling, swearing and any other comments meant to incite anger.

5) Not to post inflammatory messages on the forum, or attempt to disrupt discussions to upset its participants, or trolling.Trolling can be defined as the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

Finally someone of the PDRC itself recognizes that this irrational protest represents only a small minority.

It is quite refreshing to read the truth, for once, after being obliged to hear Suthep say (and plenty of naive farangs to repeat it) that he represents the "people".

After this, I hope that they also realize that they speak total nonsense and that their movement to overthrow an elected government is not only criminal but also ridiculous -_-

"I admit that we're not the majority voice, that we are not the voice of the whole nation. But no revolution is ever carried out by the majority," said Thirayuth.

Something never acknowledged by the obsessive, maniacal fringe. The strategy is not to reason, present an alternative, work for change but rather to bully, threaten and intimidate. It won't work

Well it won't work in terms of it being anything of a democratically sensible solution but then that's not the nature of a revolution.

In that regard I'd say that Thirayuth made a valid point even though I agree with your sentiment that ultimately that's not going to provide a practical solution for the political and governmental challenges facing Thailand.

Ten times that figure is the total population of Thailand.

Bull feathers.

I am not following you at all. You started by making a nasty comment about people from the South and when I asked you why you do that you started making nasty comment about me.

Please remember that when you make statements on forums people might challenge you to justify them. If that makes you angry or uncomfortable, maybe a forum is not the right place for you.

The southern thugs are getting home sick the numbers are down. But they will have help on the weekend when the Bangkok weekend warroris come out.

Why do you call them thugs? A bit nasty no? Calling peaceful protestors thugs. You should be ashamed of yourself. Maybe it's still time to give yourself some well needed proper education.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/thug

Peaceful my behind, neither of these groups are. I live part time in the south, it's my second home and although I wouldn´t label southerners thugs, they are pretty nasty an intolerant in general.

You have to ask yourself, if you don´t count Phuket and other touristy places, if South is the richest part of Thailand... howcome it's not as developed as the central parts of Thailand?

Howcome many of the cities in the south look worse than the cities in Isaan?

They do have a right to protest as much as the north-eastern had, but stopping people from going to work, cutting off water and electricity, dragging people off the buses, just because they suspect they belong to the other camp and beat them up... all of these things do not belong in a peaceful protest.

Just shows the lack of good education in Thailand if these words are coming from a renowned scholar.

I like how he uses the expression "forfeited their rights" - nah, we just want to take back these rights that they had no business having in the first place.

I visited Suthep's walk yesterday. Maybe 1000-2000 supporters. This is his hardcore group. Quite ridiculous.

In evenings and weekends they are more, but still a tiny minority. Most Bangkokians are annoyed by being denied to live their lifes, go to work or make a living.

Taking hostage a whole city is not "peaceful", btw.

What's not peaceful about blocking some roads? Are they burning tyres, or setting up petrol soaked bamboo barricades?

So you are claiming 60 million now from a population of 66 million. They were talkin 4 or 5 thousand yesterday at most. Some pics of the march in the foreign press had a caption "Hundreds of protestors marching in thai capital" Hundreds.

BBC were laughing at Sutheps and bluesky claim of 6 million as were everybody else.

Just because you are surrounded by media does not make you right, and it does not mean they are on your side. The underlying news angle is how mad he is getting and just how long until the mad dog department do something about him.

of course you are a minority because you are not paying 500BHT a day as the red shirts do...right now they are spreading the word through our villages hear in the deapest Northeast offering to the people if they are going to BKK 500BHT a day. And it is true for many the best what they can do to get some money and it has nothing to do with their political ideas...they have none

Prove it or shut up. So sick of this constant bs, all talk and no evidence.

I think in thailand the word educated is seriously in question.

In 18 years in thailand, I met one person who I spent time with who I was genuinely in awe of in terms of their worldly knowledge.

Sad to see that the low standards in Thai education extend all the way to the top. No doubt this 'renowned scholar' wants to be on Sutheps fascist council of 'good people'. Anyone know what his academic specialty is? Rocket science?

He was lead part of the 1970s protests and one of the ones that sparked the 1073 protests and present at the student massacre of 76.

He led The NSCT which as an example led tens of thousands of people in public protests against the regimes. However, one of the first activities of the NSCT was a 10-day boycott against Japanese products, in protest against Japanese investments in Thailand.

He was also an anti monarchist but later renounced socialism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirayuth_Boonmee

you might say he has been reformed.

So as George Burns quipped, " I have principles, but if you don't like them, I have others".

His protest against the Japanese in Thailand worked out well didn't it.

Seems this guy is a loser of the first order. I'm not sure I'd want to follow him into battle.

Six million out of a population of, say, sixty six million. Let's see now........ yup, that's a minority.

A couple of other facts you might want to consider. Firstly the BBC did not report six million people on the street, thousands was as high as they went, other sources said hundreds at some sites. Secondly, you are correct to not count those that did not come out. You have no idea which side they support, if any.

If you're trying to stage a revolution, it pays to make rallying cries that aren't patently stupid. Otherwise you look.........

Once a thug always a thug. They are southern drug popping thugs. Case Closed. You don't like my post block me instead of making your stupid comments that I could care less about.

Or he could go home eh? Yes, everyone who doesn't support PTP and believe every word their wonderful democratically elected PM/DM says should simply bugger off if they're a foreigner. Any Thai who opposes them must be a drug popping thug.

Love the way you try and state your very biased and unsubstantiated slurr as if it were fact. clap2.gif

Thirayuth Boonmee is widely respected in Thailand and internationally as one of Thailand's pre-emminent scholars and intellectuals.

Most of the previous posters either don't know that or don't want to know that - so what does that say about their education.

Some of you really need to take a good look at yourself before you put your foot in your mouth again.

Interesting. You claim things are proven - when they're not. Here say is not proof. Then you tell the poster to zip it for daring to challenge something or ask for proof. On another post you tell people to block your allegations which you try to pass off as fact, rather than respond to them on an open forum.

Hmmmm. Not a fan of debate, free speech and people expressing different views or asking questions and challenging bull shit statements. Go on, tell us, are you posting from overseas, a warm place, lots of sand and posh buildings? Is it you ?? thumbsup.gif

This, coming from a scholar?

Yes - and he makes a fair point.

Have you studied the revolutions that have occurred throughout history, violent, passive, social and political.

Do a bit of research as clearly, you not a scholar whereas Khun T is.

This renowned scholar was one of the students protesting against the government in 1973. That was when some UDD leaders were still communists having training on 'democracy' in Vietnam.

"Thirayuth Boonmee, a student leader who steered the student movement to struggle for democracy that culminated on Oct 14, 1973"
