Nickymaster
I visited Suthep's walk yesterday. Maybe 1000-2000 supporters. This is his hardcore group. Quite ridiculous. In evenings and weekends they are more, but still a tiny minority. Most Bangkokians are annoyed by being denied to live their lifes, go to work or make a living. Taking hostage a whole city is not "peaceful", btw. http://www.asianewsnet.net/38-of-Bangkok-residents-want-demonstrators-to-go-h-56023.html Edited January 16, 2014 by Nickymaster

Ajaan
BBC reported more than 6 millions on the street in Bangkok itself, and you call that minority? We have not even counter those who did not come out, at work, overseas, and those outside Bangkok. Easily adds up to 10 times that figure. You, liar. Yeah, I would like to see the link to the BBC source where they claim 6 million. That's so utterly ludicrous. OR...I wonder if BBC used Google Translate on some of the sarcastic, joke posts by opponents of the shutdown...I follow several of them on Twitter, such as MilanShevaLive. I recommend checking this out if you can read Thai, it's an interesting look into the [considerably large] "opposition to the opposition"...and no, they are not all Thaksin fans, either. Anyway, one type of post that's popular is, they post a photo of one of the rally sites, with the caption "Look, here are 10 million protesters at Lad Prao," or "Hmm, I count 6 million in this photo taken at Asok, how about you?" It would be really funny if sources like the BBC were taking these sarcastic posts as actual reports...!
ginjag
What I think is needed is. No amnesty, for no one if they have committed crimes then they have to answer to them. Total reform here from top to bottom. The government step down first and have NO influence in the reform. Every government MP should be checked and dealt with if found guilty of corruption-lifelong ban. Once reform has been dealt with ONLY clean parties and candidates can be forwarded for elections. Any election fraud/payments offered -all persons to be Jailed. Only then elections to take place, even if it takes a year or two. All this Feb 2 elections and postpone elections till another date-re May---NO this is a waste of time and money as it will bring back all unwanted trash back into government. This will be shouted at but it is my thoughts.

binjalin
Sad to see that the low standards in Thai education extend all the way to the top. No doubt this 'renowned scholar' wants to be on Sutheps fascist council of 'good people'. Anyone know what his academic specialty is? Rocket science? He was lead part of the 1970s protests and one of the ones that sparked the 1073 protests and present at the student massacre of 76. He led The NSCT which as an example led tens of thousands of people in public protests against the regimes. However, one of the first activities of the NSCT was a 10-day boycott against Japanese products, in protest against Japanese investments in Thailand. He was also an anti monarchist but later renounced socialism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirayuth_Boonmee you might say he has been reformed. you might also say he has joined the elite often happens when people lose their poor roots (good for them for doing so obviously) but they become 'part' of that which they once despised - humans are basically pretty selfish (most of the time)

Popular Post dwcrist
At least this guy is a little more reasonable and can recognize and admit that they are not the majority and the class difference between most the protestors and the rest of the country. But he dismisses those 2 huge holes in the PDRC's legitimacy with some pretty shabby reasoning and shocking statements: "I admit that we're not the majority voice, that we are not the voice of the whole nation. But no revolution is ever carried out by the majority," said Thirayuth. I call BS on this. Successful and good revolution is ALWAYS carried out with the support of the MAJORITY. True, not everyone can participate, but it has to be backed by the majority, not the minority. I am not a history major, so can anyone please point out examples of both sorts of revolutions. Either proving me right or wrong? and: "those who voted for the Yingluck Shinawatra administration have forfeited their rights by accepting a corrupt and dictatorial government" WT...? This is the most shocking part. When is it ok for someone to decide that others have forfeited their rights and do not need to be respected? What if some group decides that you forfeited your rights because you did something they don't agree with? This is fascist thinking, plain and simple, no way around it. sumrit
of course you are a minority because you are not paying 500BHT a day as the red shirts do...right now they are spreading the word through our villages hear in the deapest Northeast offering to the people if they are going to BKK 500BHT a day. And it is true for many the best what they can do to get some money and it has nothing to do with their political ideas...they have none But my (Thai) mate told me he WAS offered 500 baht a day to stop work and join the PDRC demonstations.

They pay only the thugs (guards) 1000 baht per day. Not sure about the 35000 southeners which were carried in. Food is free at the protest sites. During daytime, there is hardly any serious protester. Many bored housewives. I can recommend, go yourself and see how few supporterts walk with Suthep. Maybe 1000-2000. During weekends the numbers increase. The pictures from the first day show approx. 100-200 thousand protesters. This is still a tiny minority considered that Bangkok population is 8-10 million.

Mr Yim
I think it is fair to say that not many civil wars are won by the elitists and middle classes, but I guess that is something they have not thought about. Lets just hope, for the PDRC's sake, that if this were to degenerate into a civil war, the reds show some compassion for there fellow country men. Popular Post kamahele
College educated public servant friend of my partner's from Isaan, goes to BKK to protest against the government and what do the BKK protesters tell her? "What are you doing here?", "You people from the NE are all ignorant and uneducated". This is how they treated someone who came to protest alongside them. The vote buying is not the only reason people from the NE voted for Thaksin and his sister. This is a common fallacy. They are tired of being sh*t on by the elite minded. You can be rich and educated and still be ignorant.
