BANGKOK, Jan 16 – Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban has vowed to fight unrelentingly without compromise despite the government’s latest decision to continue with the Feb 2 general election.

“We will neither negotiate nor compromise. The People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) will fight until we win. If police want to arrest me as announced by the national police chief, please do. I’m ready to fight,” declared the former deputy prime minister.

National police chief, Adul Saengsingkaew, said the police must be cautious in arresting Mr Suthep, adding that a step-by-step plan has been mapped out.

Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, in his capacity as chairman of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO), has instructed police to urgently nab Mr Suthep and other protest leaders.

Pol Gen Adul said, “It’s our objective but we have to be careful and patient.”

He said he was most concerned about political infiltration by a third party and instructed police at checkpoints to thoroughly check for weapons.

Regarding a PDRC call to move the CAPO office out of the National Police Headquarters, Pol Gen Adul said, “That’s my business.” (MCOT online news)

The rantings of an increasingly unhinged man. He has backed himself into a corner. Some of his on-stage rhetoric has even eclipsed that of Jatuporn at the height of the red shirt campaign of 2010. Talk of hunting down the families, siblings and children of cabinet ministers. Hmm. I think many of his supporters quietly embarrassed by his words. It will be interesting to see if the government has drawn a line in the sand as to how long they will allow this disruption to go on. I beleive that most of your average Bangkok residents are fed up with the disruption to their lives. I know I am.

i suspect you are more than a little warm ;)

Thais don't say anything much when they get embarrassed they just disappear and dont come back, quietly and slowly but surely i think this is what is also going on. It only takes a word of someone older or respected to say hey this guy is going too far, he is going against the thai way of getting things done indirectly and going head on without pause, even when its obvious another tool in the box like talks would get somewhere he is just refusing. in short hes looking increasingly foolish and it is rubbing off on the Thai image and Thais dont like the image getting questioned This can be embarrassing and can lose face, especially if your getting told the guy is an idiot, no list of council names, no talks of how to reform, ruining the peoples businesses, losing people their jobs, what exactly is he proposing past this ow pai matra ? what next ? just ow pai.... ? really ?

I think a lot are going home and not coming back for a chap that is embarrassing them. we shall see i expect the weekend to be more busy but atm I cant see it being 2 weeks ago size.

It is becoming quite clear that he is reaching a breakdown - I'm reminded of Hitler in the final days as the Red army over-ran Berlin, and he strutted about in his bunker ordering non-existing armies about on his map screaming "No surrender! We shall win!"

Suthep has been completely out manouvered by YS - no violent police action against his demonstrations, hence no excuse for the army to step in which had always been the only way he could have won. No arrest whilst he was still popular, that would have made him a martyr. Just letting him hang himself by his ever more ridiculous demands and threats.

It's quite clear now that his support amongst ordinary Bangkokians is dwindling as they get fed up with his endless disruption of their daily lives. All YS has to do is to let him end up screaming abuse to an empty stage, and then have him put down like the rabid dog that he is!rolleyes.gif

He has no reason to negotiate or compromise.

It's not Suthep that's in the corner, and if you believe that, you are confused.

He has momentum and support.

Let it play out. He may just end up achieving his goals...and that would be good for Thailand.

I think you are confused. Abhisit has just announced that the Dems are joining the reform committee set up by the government. It looks like the Democrat Party leader has decided to do the civilised thing, recognising that the increasingly erratic and criminal behaviour of the protest leaders is not the way. Well done Abhisit for making the right decision and helping the country to move on and not backwards away from democracy and common sense (as Suthep, Dr. Seri etc. would like to see).

Time to take him away and give him a warm cocoa, pat him on the head and say down boy.

Completely unhinged, even his masters must be cringing now.

..and let the Shin's and their cronies continue to rape this country.

Change your icon. You have no right to use it.

I think a number of people have popped down to the protests to say they were there and then got on with getting on with their lives. How many people can realistically afford to not go to work etc to take part in a prolonged campaign? My wifes entire team went to asoke on Monday after work and then yesterday it was a case of " nah ld rather be getting home" Im sure they aren't the only people like this. Though of course as shown with the red shirts in 2010 you only need a small hardcore element to cause chaos and looking at some of the cheerleaders at the front when suthep etc is on stage they've got them if they need them.

He won't negotiate. He won't compromise. Can you imagine what type "people's council" he would approve? He is ashill for the establishment. If he won't negotiate or compromise , then why hasn't the military moved to remove him? Why isn't the military supported the legally elected government and defending Thailand against this anarchy?

They haven't removed him because his interests and those of the military are similar. Why would he negotiate, there is nothing that the PT can offer him. An election will not give him the result he needs, any negotiated settlement would leave the PT in power, which doesn't improve the situation for the protesters. The military has been clear that they will not interfere with the protests. The police can't move in case that sets of the military. Both the military and the police have picked their sides and are waiting for the other side to over react so that they can justify what happens next.

Reminds me of Cpt Ahab in Moby Dick

Captain Ahab was prophetically named. He was motivated by revenge against the cetatean that bit off his leg. Captain Ahab perished "at the hands", so to speak, of the white whale before it sank the Pequod killing all but one of the crew. This literary analagy may yet be the figurative fate of the PCAD's captain Ahab.

Forget not the infamy of Ahab (7th King of isreal) "And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Isreal to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him". I Kings 16:33 Or that he was slain by an arrow randomly shot at his army during battle, in which he had disguised himself so that he would not be recognised as the leader. I Kings 22.30 and 34.

Suthep and the Dems have never been willing to negotiate or compromise since years...

Yingluck has been open to negotiate, sent many offers to sit together, but it was systematically refused by the anti-democracy side.

The only solution now is to let them damage their reputation even more so that more and more people turn to PT in the next election.

The Dems will be flattened... And Suthep will end up in prison. Perfect rolleyes.gif

Remember in 2010 the reds wouldn't negotiate. When they were offered an election they just made new demands. You can't honestly say that either side is willing to give an inch. The next election will be nullified or cancelled so it doesn't matter how many seats the pt wins. If the protesters win you will see the reds back in the streets next year using the same tactics. No high ranking politician will see any serious jail time.

" National police chief, Adul Saengsingkaew, said the police must be cautious in arresting Mr Suthep, adding that a step-by-step plan has been mapped out. "

This " step-by-step plan " that has been mapped out doubtless ensures that - by 2020 - Suthep will be just where CAPO wants him.

A word of caution, however. As always, Thaksin is so focused on one man, that he cannot see anything else. Thaksin makes the mistake - as apparently do many of the members of the administration - that this protest is dependent on only one man - that if he were apprehended - all those supporters, and the convictions that they have - that they would all disappear. Not only is this a dangerous assumption, but quite the contrary, any move on Suthep would cause the protest to go absolutely ape. It would change the whole dynamic on the street. It would, indeed, turn into an angry mob, which it most definitely isn't now. ( For clear reference, just think Ratchaprason, 2010 ).

Thaksin has privately wished - fervently - since 2006 to have this amnesty bill passed. It was. He got his wish. And this is what resulted. Therefore Thaksin should now be aware of the timeless adage we were continually taught as children

- be careful what you wish for.

Yes momentum indeed. Have you been outside recently? Numbers falling, people ashamed, he is losing face and acting like a Muppet. Just ask your neighbour..
