I'm trying to add up if its comparable to renting a car (to include Bangkok to Pattaya as well as around Pattaya for a week). Hertz quotes a Honda Jazz at about 7K for the week (+ fuel and insurance waiver).

Some local Pattaya taxi companies are now asking 4-5,000 baht to Korat or nearby village - door to door. This assumes only two people with normal luggage using a sedan and not requiring a larger mini-van.

5K, starting to edge toward a car hire for a week. Take into account taxi from airport, plus the use of it to get around (although its Songkran week, so perhaps not much getting around to be done).

Would probably get through a tank or two of fuel.

We will have 6 year old with us, so would otherwise consider a bike hire.
