johnnort
I understand that if one is 65 or older only proof of retirement is required to obtain a non O on the grounds of retirement. If no proof of finances are required at that stage what about obtaining the yearly extensions? Is proof of finances required then (800,000 in bank or monthly income of 65,000)? Thank you! TerryLH
Yes, proof of finances are required for extensions at immigration. 800k in a bank in Thailand proved with a letter from the bank. Or - 65k income a month requires a letter from your embassy. Or - A combination of the two totaling 800k will require both a letter from the bank and a letter from your embassy. Langsuan Man
Proof of finances are required for an O visa (based upon retirement) even if obtained outside of Thailand (O-A) the main difference is that the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country requires less proof of the 65K per month or 800,000 in a bank (not required to be in a Thai bank) A copy of bank statement or evidence of adequate finance showing a deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 800,000 Baht or an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht, or a deposit account plus a monthly income totaling not less than 800,000 Baht Source: http://dc.thaiembdc.org/consular/VISA/Non-Imglong.aspx BTW. The age for a retirement visa is only 50, not
ubonjoe
Even the 65 or over with nothing but a pension to get a multiple entry non-o is apparently no longer available since the embassy now has to approve the application. The Hull consulate had that info on their website in the past but it is no longer there.

I was previously under the impression I could easily get a single entry for 80 usd, but that is not the case for retirement (in DC anyway). 200 usd. ubonjoe
No embassy or official consulate in your home country will issue a non-o visa for being 50 or over. They will only do the OA visa. You need to get non-o visas from a honorary Thai consulate. For US they are listed here: http://www.thaiembdc.us/dcdp/Thai_Consulate_Directory2

TerryLH
"but, then the clock is ticking on getting your 800K in your Thai Bank account." A Non O entry will give you 90 days. That should be adequate to get an account, fund it and have the money seasoned for 2 months.
