BBC staff 'turned blind eye' to Savile abuse: report

LONDON - BBC staff turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse by star presenter Jimmy Savile of up to 1,000 girls and boys in the corporation's changing rooms and studios, according an internal inquiry leaked Sunday.

The inquiry by former judge Janet Smith found Savile’s behaviour had been recognized by executives at the world’s biggest public broadcaster but they took no action to stop him, according to the Observer newspaper.

A police investigation concluded last year that the television and radio presenter, who died in 2011 aged 84, was a predatory sex offender who abused children as young as eight over more than 50 years.

It identified 450 victims but the Smith inquiry suggests up to 1,000 people were abused by Savile while he was working for the BBC, according to the Observer.

Peter Saunders, chief executive of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, which has been consulted by Smith’s inquiry, said many people at the BBC admitted knowing about Savile’s behaviour.

"The other thing I have found extraordinary, and very sad, is the number of people have spoken to connected to the BBC -- and that is a lot of people - who said: ’Oh yes, we all knew about him.’," Saunders told the newspaper.

The Smith inquiry report is likely to throw the publicly-funded BBC into fresh turmoil when it is presented next month.

....and now we'll see what comes out of the allegations about Rolf Harris. If proved, he should rot in Prison.

..with the emphasis being on "if proved",... let's not go hanging old Rolfie just yet wink.png

Next, please will authorities independent of the Jersey administration investigate the horrors that went on at the Haut de la Garenne children's home and bring those responsible to justice..

Little wonder the BBC hushed things up, as operation Yewtree has progressed it appears half the celebs on their payroll during the 70's were up to the same thing. It must give people a warm feeling inside, if they still have to pay a licence fee towards the shoddy politicized anachronism that our once respected national broadcaster has become.

Don't you feel a little bit sorry for the BBC? They have thousands of archive episodes of the Top of the Pops which were introduced by these DJ celebs over the years. They are desperately trying to use up the repeat slots but they are running out of shows they can use...

Noel Edmonds and Kid Jensen - if they go down then the whole series will have to be re-edited.....at the licencepayers expense, or the great musical triumphs of the 70s and 80s will be lost forever......

Indeed the reaction of one girl in the Top of the pops audience had to be edited out due to the digital fumblings of the hairy cornflake, who then introduced the Smurfs; Where are you all coming from? Indeed.
