Anyone here insuring their smartphones or tablets against loss or theft?

There's an American / UK company called ProtectYourBubble that does this, and they claim to support international claims.

Anyone using a different solution, that's maybe cheaper? Maybe even a Thai company?

Thanks!!

Since the genuine shrinkage/breakage percentages are so high, and fraud so rampant in LoS I can't see the business model working here.

Seems almost like wanting to ensure your pens and pencils. . .

My strategies:

Keep stuff on your person.

Live in a household full of trustworthy people where there's always someone home.

If you're very forgetful:

Don't drink or do drugs.

Always think "have I got all my stuff" when about to leave a place, taxi etc.

Train your SO to keep an eye on your stuff

Be careful so you don't break stuff, buy good padded bags to keep it in.

Don't take it with you when travelling to places with poor security.

etc etc all pretty common sense

If these seem extreme, then you could try:

Don't buy too-expensive gear, defined as something it would be painful to have to replace.

With tech gear in general, you're probably going to periodically replace it anyway, just accept it might be more frequently than you'd like.

I do this - have a checklist that I run through in my mind:

Keys Cash Shades Phone Spectacles and Testicles. Good to go.

Done with rhythmic hand gestures and the right musical accompaniment, this could be the new Gangnam Style YouTube sensation.

I seriously doubt any insurance for loss or damage of iPhones or iPads could be made available at reasonable rates. Every time Apple came out with the latest versions there would be a rash of lost older iPhones and iPads and claims for cash to facilitate upgrades ... and that sort of thing would be happening everywhere. Fraud and larceny are not exclusively Thai and neither are dubious insurance policies.

Each year, more than 700,000 mobile phones are lost or stolen in Britain, according to O2, so it is not surprising that far more phone users now also buy insurance.

In 2006 it was estimated that just 3pc of owners had an insurance policy. Today, one in four of us has cover. But this insurance is often not cheap; it can add hundreds of pounds a year to your annual phone costs.

Increasing numbers of users are also complaining that this insurance does not offer the peace of mind they thought they had paid for. The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) reported a significant jump in complaints about the cover this year
