Did anyone see The Blues Factory and Lam Morrison on Peschardt's People on the BBC World TV service?

I tuned in as that segment finished and I can not find the programme listed on the schedules. :o

When will it be on again?

It seemed to be about Thailand in General but featured Pattaya Walking Street and Lam and his band doing their amazing thing.

I saw it on Saturday morning and it was repeated yesterday....................couldn't find out when the repeat was on after i first watched it so didn't bother posting about it .

I may have imagined it but I thought the Blues Factory sign and logo were clearly shown. It was an excellent plug.

BBC ought to improve their schedule lists...there doesn't appear to be a 'search' option and the times shown never seem to coincide with actual broadcast times. GMT?? BST?? Thai time? Who knows?

I think I will try and join their viewer panel and tell them about it.

Dave, when it started I wondered if they were going to feature your Restroom Attendant. :D He is in a class of his own as a businessman. One hundred baht tips for standing in the way of the door as it opens and looking sorrowful. Thats a clever act. :D

Sorry but I can't get used to this Thai service. Other places manage to keep their restrooms clean without users being 'encouraged' to tip an attendant (see Lucifers for example). :o

Sorry to be even slightly critical cuz I think you run a great place with fantastic performers. Pattaya is lucky to have it.!

He works for tips (no salary) has 3 kids and a wife and 2 other jobs and he keeps the place absolutley spotless as well as using his own money to buy towels, gel, powder and combs etc.

There is no obligation to tip him anything.

Glad you like the bar. :D

I whole heartedly agree with the above post - both the positives and negatives. It's a great place Dave, but can't you get that guy in the loo to do something else - outside the loo? Or is he a major shareholder? :D

Incidentally, we had a bit of a debate on this over Songkran when I think you were away. You either missed it, or decided to ignore it. If you did miss it, you can find it here:

Starts about half way down page six. The merits and demerits of smarmy , male toilet attendants. :D

Actually the rest room guy has a great sense of humour and is always happy and cheerful.....a small tip is of course appreciated.........Lucifers is not in the same class as the BF :D

Just read it and ...... well thats it. :D He gets more compliments then complaints, he should'nt ask for tips.

I'm happy because in other bars some customers piss on the floor, wipe bogeys on the mirror and generally treat the place like a sihthole, at least my bogs are guaranteed to be clean, with paper and (normally) water.

I did'nt hire him my manager did (probably on commission from his tips), but i'm not going to fire him. :D

Fair enough - at least there is a reason for him being there.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest over this :D , but wouldn't one of those discrete young ladies do a cleaning job equally as well, without making the punters feel they have to fork out a tip every time they have a piss? ( A bit pricey on us old stagers with weak bladders :D )

When you have customers who would prefer to go and piss down the road because they can't stand these loo men, doesn't that tell you something? I don't think I'm a lone voice in the wilderness - but I guess that most people would rather keep their irritation to themselves.

Anyway, you know best; it's your place, and a very fine place it is too. Long live the blues. :D

Moby - come on your not that intimidated. Dave's Loo guard is a nice fella and as I commented in the other thread.. he doesnt give you a shoulder massage when you are unleashing your trouser snake, so eliminate that and I think you have naught to worry about. :o

I had a woman doing the same in the ladies before but i caught her selling the loo paper that I buy so i got rid of her. :o

I have to say that the thai woman leave that toilet in a terrible state,m why can't they learn to sit ON the <deleted> seat.

:D

I saw it as well on BBC. My wife started yelling from the living room " Heyyyyyy, come heeeere! Dave's pub is on BBCeeeeeee!"

Washroom guy is a good lad. Not pushy and friendly.

Why doesn't the rest room attendant appreciate guys who have big tips? :D

To the delight of many girls, some of us are proudly born with such an affliction. :o

Dave why not put Mr Loo on 10 k a month and just put the price of all drinks (apart from tiger) up by 10 baht.

You'll be happy , Mr Loo will be happy and these bunch of wingers will have nothing to winge about, will they. :o

(edit) by the way , I think Mr Loo does a great job and he's worth every penny that he's given.Nothing worse than a shitty shitter

Its a shame that a post about the best music venue in Pattaya which features some of the best musicians and singers performing anywhere should get sidetracked into discussing toilets.Buts its clear that I am not alone in being irritated by Thai Toilet Attendants . :o

Dave you say that no one has to tip. That is true; but the first time I went in there I gave him a 5 baht tip which I thought was the going rate locally.

He looked at it as though I had handed him a piece of dog shit. I then dug in my pocket and gave him more. Since that time I have never tipped him but on my various visits have observed his highly lucrative modus operandi.

He locates behind the door in such a way that the door can crash into him. This puts the person entering on the defensive and they often apologise. This is often followed by a compensatory tip being handed over as they leave. He has a large range of acting techniques suitable for all encounters. He is, without a doubt, a class act!!

Last week I was in there as an American gave him 100 baht. He gave the kind of fulsome and noisy thankyou that excited bargirls give to drunks who mistakenly tip 1000 baht thinking its small change. As I left he said to me triumphantly 'you no tip. You like free'.

Well YES I DO.

Anyway. I will learn to live with it. Its a small price to pay to hear Mary and Lam and the others (all excellent in every way). :D

He probably stands behind the door because it's the only space in the toilet no being used :D

I think he does a good job, whilst we all have a problem once we have "broken the seal" one good tip will do the job. He remembers you each time you come in.

In reality, as Dave says he is supporting his family without a wage from the BF. So give the guy a break, if you are not used to this kind of thing in Thailand by now then you have no reason to comment.

Congrats on the BBC coverage Dave. Ask them if you can get the tape, as a sponsor I am sure you would be able to post the file on TV for entertainment value.

See ya soon mate.

(I see my pic is still on your website, how about you offer the first non regular a free beer if they can pick me out?)

Nah. He is just getting himself closer to the urinal where he can better inhale urine fumes.

According to him it is much better than sniffing glue or petrol. :o
