The role of the Australian embassy had expanded significantly in response to this new scope for cooperation, she said at a reception to mark Australia Day, on January 26. Ms Moules said Canberra’s development assistance program was a major focus of the embassy’s work, particularly in the areas of education – which includes hundreds of scholarships and fellowships for study in Australia – as well as health, agriculture and livelihoods. Increasing engagement had resulted in the opening of a Trade Commission office at the embassy last year and will see the appointment of a resident defence attaché this year, she said.
