Suthep threatens to shut down CMPO within a day

Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Monday gave an ultimatum to the government to shut down the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order within a day otherwise the protesters will lay siege to the centre.

He also announced that the People’s Democratic Reform Committee would not return the Government Complex at Chaeng Wattana to the government as requested by CMPO.

CMPO is headed by Labour Minister Chalerm Yubamrung who is tasked with enforcing the Emergency Decree.

Speaking at a press conference held today afternoon at Pathumwan protest site, Mr Suthep said that the government had already lost any legitimacy to govern and the PDRC’s aim was to shut down government bureaucracy by preventing officials from going to work to serve the government. Hence, the PDRC will not talk with the government or any governmental agency for the return of the Government Complex to the government, he added.

The protest leader said that CMPO’s request, through negotiations, for the return of the complex was just a pretext to use force against protesters at all protest sites and, therefore, there would be no talks whatsoever.

He urged protesters to rush to help their colleagues if the latter were forcibly dispersed by the police in order to reclaim the protest sites, including the Government Complex.

“We will not fight with the police. We will be there to sit with our colleagues at any protest stage raided by the police,” announced Mr Suthep. He also urged protesters not to carry any weapons but “to come with two bare hands and the hearts for peace and if they cannot do this, just stay home.”

Situations remind me of Charlie Chan saying - 'Somebody always about to put fly in ointment'

Tuesday will certainly be interesting and the rest of the week ending in election day.

General Prayuth affirming their co-operation with the police and without contradictory words this morning.

Chalerm making it clear he means business arresting protest leaders and reclaiming the seige sites.

Suthep threatening and heading into the Alamo for a standoff with his protestors bare hands.

hmmm, tbd...

Suthep wants blood.

He has to draw blood/create chaos to fulfill his plan of getting the military to react.

Of course his own blood will remain coursing through his crazy brain, he will use his followers as sacrificial pawns.

Yes......He is a vampire......Brrrrrrrrrsad.png

It appears that Suthep and Chalerm are talking over each other's heads, but nonetheless appear now to be headed for a collision course, which was likely inevitable. Suthep's very, very clear directive to the protesters, though, not to bear arms, and to sit in the face of resistance is the proper tactic to adopt. Doubtless Chalerm will apply strong-arm tactics. But as the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order have never to date achieved anything resembling peace and order, it remains doubtful that either will suddenly materialize anytime soon. There is no way that Chalerm will be able to move the protesters without force. And if his hand is overplayed, the army will doubtless respond. As the discourse now seems to be hopelessly locked on who occupies their own respective ant hill, the fundamentals of this conflict are in danger of being overlooked. This administration not only has no legislative power, but it will never regain legislative power. The only power they can flex now is an unlawfully imposed caretaker emergency decree in the midst of an election which must be the envy of Robert Mugabe. All that remains of the Yingluck administration is the exercise of power.
