Girl, 7, among three shot dead in Narathiwat

BANGKOK: -- Three people were killed including a seven-year-old girl when suspected insurgents opened fire at a villager's pick-up with an AKA rifle yesterday afternoon in Narathiwat's Ra Ngae district, Ra Ngae police superintendent Pol Colonel Jiradech Phrasawang said.

Following the shooting report at 4pm, police found the bullet-ridden truck in the middle of a Ban Sipo Moo 3 road in Chalerm sub-district. The body of Ismae Doloh, 35, was found with many bullet wounds in the driver's seat while the young girl's body with one gunshot wound to the chest was in the cab seat.

Police found the body of Assanai Jehsoh, 32, with two gunshot wounds in the back in a roadside bush. Police collected a total of 16 spent bullets from the scene.

Police inquiries found the three victims returned from running an errand in the village and were heading home in Muang district when they slowed to take a curve. The assailants, hiding behind roadside trees, sprayed bullets at the vehicle, killing the driver and the girl. They then chased Assanai, who tried to flee. They suspected the attack was part of the insurgency in the region.

dont blame the insurgents for being brain dead, blame the government for not having the balls to stage a war against them, fkn animals, both sides

How do you separate the men from the boys in (name your country)?

it is way past time for the army to shoot these mongrels, they know who they are but simply let them keep doing it. Take a squad down there and start eliminating them, no trial just remove them so this doesnt keep happening when these animals decide to kill innocent unarmed people and children to get their jollies and show everyone how "mucho" they are.

This kind of Muslim terrorism has been going on in the southern PI for decades...these cowards board an island hopping ferry...get up in the middle of the night and using a machete...proceed to decapitate as many passengers as possible until they are subdued...

I can not think of any punishment...that is harsh enough for the crimes they commit...killing innocent people...

+1. RIP little girl :-(

And hell to the people who did this, and the govt. for not doing anything affirmative. Or parts of the govt. that are supposed to do something but didn't.

As the old saying goes: If you allow them to do it, they will do it".

Just a question for clarification...When was the last time that the Thai armed forces repelled a foreign attack?

forgive me if i'm wrong but wasn't it during thaksin's reign that the insurgents & drug peddlers were shaking in their boots?

i do not condone the raping of the nation during his reign but insurgents & drug peddlers were kept in check, no?

They are fighting back, but counterinsurgency is tough. Same with Afghanistan, the militants don't control the central government but still manage to pull off attacks. Like David fighting Goliath, but I don't think there is a righteous motive behind either of these insurgencies. The cruel methods used show this.

the religion of peace in action

Allah the most merciful the most benificent

Allah the most merciful the most benificent

They will have their ridiculous excuse for the weeee ones death. Something on the lines of ''It was _____'s will'', AH's........Grrrrrr.

i have 20 year old and 3 year old girl, nearly made me cry reading this.whats wrong with these people or animals i should say, but then again animals dont do this for fun.so they must below the rat scale.

No justice no peace! Remember Tak Bai, Kru Se, Sobayoi, and Somchai Neejaphalit.

So let's kill a seven year-old girl?

Allah the most merciful the most beneficent

I'm sure whoever created him all those centuries ago would be ashamed of this too. sad.png

This kind of Muslim terrorism ...[

I think you'll find that Assamai is an Islamic name....as is Ismae. That suggests that they were killed by Buddhist insurgents.

It is certainly not proven that the insurgents were Muslim - both sides are killing each other in that region.

The muslims are the ones fighting the established order so only they can be insurgents. Muslim insurgents have killed fellow muslims for not playing their game too.

Of course it may have been an attack on muslims by Buddhists as you say. We shall have to wait and see.

Most of the people killed by the terrorists in the deep South are muslims who doesn`t support this retarded cause.

True, could be an extradicial killing. Other possible scenarios are whoever was the primary target was an informer or it is a gang/business related dispute.

They've been back on their heels continuously since the Burmese sacked Adyudha. They're quite adept at killing unarmed student democracy demonstators, however.

No justice...no peace. If there had been any justice for the massacres and other criminal acts of the thai state against the people of the south, this girl, and thousands of other people, might be alive today.

Thailand needs someone who'll really get to grips with this insurgency, there's too much pussyfooting around with too few troops on the ground. The PM should maybe take a leaf from her brothers book on "how to deal with drug dealers" and amend it to "how to deal with terrorists"!

So you support extraducial killing of 'suspects', this did not acheive a sucessfull outcome during Thaksins 'war on drugs', nor does it in the deep South. Thai security have 50k plus on the ground in the deep South, the specialist units in the Rangers and Marines are trained for counter insurgency by the US and others. However similar to insurgency/militant conflicts around the world takes many years to acheive an end point & usually finally resolved by political means, not force.

Actually, the War on Drugs was broadly considered successful, as repugnant as the tactics may have been. In fact, a Suan Dusit poll of 10,000 people at the time showed a 90% approval rating for the initiative in the general population. Most Thais I've spoken to have said that the drug problem has seriously worsened since Thaksin's time... even sis hasn't done much on this front. And while the coup makers investigated and criticized Thaksin for the policy, they eventually said they did not have enough evidence to mount a prosecution. Interesting, no?

Btw, I mostly agree with your post re dealing with insurgencies, though I think things are more complex. We know that the Tamil Tigers were defeated militarily as were most of the insurgencies in Europe following World War II. The British response to the Malayan Emergency is considered a model of what to do--aggressive military action combined with hearts and minds efforts--and even during that 'war' there were abuses and atrocities on both sides. Not sure what the thai govt has been doing in terms of both assertive military action and hearts-and-minds....

Are you saying that the killing of innocent civilians, including children, is justified? That's one way to read your post....
