PATTAYA:--A child aged 1 year and 3 months was repeatedly bitten by a dog at a house she was staying at with her grandmother and cousin.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the house in Soi Mapyailia 49 in East Pattaya, owned by Khun Gaesunee aged 38, who was bitten on her arms as she pulled the child away from the angry dog.

The child and her grandmother live in Rayong and had come to Pattaya for a 10 day holiday and were staying with the family member who has 4 dogs.

There seem to be several dog breeds here that are completely banned in other countries. I doubt that those countries ban them without cause.

Such as? Please enlighten us.

Any particular breed seems rare here, usually just a mix of some sort.

Based on this video I've only seen a few breeds here on banned lists for other countries. Doberman (seen occasionally here), Rottweiler (seen often here) and Boerboel (rare) - perhaps Pitbulls also. Also here is a list of banned dogs based on legislation in different countries. - Breed Specific Legistation

Lack of child supervision particularly around dogs, even more so dogs on their home territory, trebly so with an infant smaller than them, quadruply so in a pack.

So many obvious contributing factors here.

Of course, only bad news is reported. We don't hear about the responsible parents who keep dogs unsocialised with infants away from their babies.

Did not know there was any outright bans, i just thought there was restrictions on ownership.

I am not an expert (nor do I want to be) but Pitbulls and Rottwielers and assimilated types/crosses spring to mind. (Or should I say to the throat?)

There is more than one w*nker that drives around town in a pickup truck emblazoned with the logo of some Thai Mad Dog Club or some such nonsense, and every time I see the vehicles it makes me shudder. Creeps like that should be put down with their dogs, as both are equally dangerous and antisocial.

Dogs are not to trusted around infants - fact.

I don't like dogs at the best of times.

Poor little kid. Hope she's OK.

Salutary lesson for parents, grandparents and everybody else.

The perennial debate continues and will do so until Armageddon:

Dogs is bad,

No, they're not,

yes they are.

Good breeds,

bad breeds.

Good owners,

bad owners

good legislation

bad legislation

no legislation

Health Warning! We are stuck with the buggers!!

It doesn't matter what breed the dog is, they are all potential dangers to small children left unattended. I have met docile rotties and really nasty pugs over here as examples.

I see there has been reference made to 'banned' breeds, but nothing about local breeds like the Bangkaew. One of the fiercest and most loyal dogs that there is. Originally derived from a domestic dog and a jackal, these are still bred up here in Phitsanulok province (originally from Ban Rakam). If you want to be fearful of any dog here, try these.

Even attended don't assume your local mutt won't try to have a go at your kids.

I was playing with my 1.5 year waiting from my wife and 4.5 year old finish up some stuff at a shop in Town in Town.

Along came a scruffy dog with a red collar and little bell on it. At first he seemed friendly let me pat him on the back, they all of a sudden he started getting frisky, aggressive towards my son. Even when I grabbed my son and picked him up the dog tried to jump up and take a nip at him. It wasn't the old hair up and back - teeth showing and growling but a bite is a bite as far as I am concerned.

Luckily I landed my right foot square in his ribs and he howled a bit and ran off.

Now I don't think this was a bad dog per say, he was probably just being too frisky but how can you really know in the heat of the moment.

Another Thai story straight from "The Book of Darwin".

Dogs should not be allowed around children, and that seems to include most Thais, generally speaking, because this is what happens when one breaks that seeming rule.

mothers should not leave their infants with grandparents they are dangerous.
