CMPO seeks warrants for 39 more protest leaders

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) will seek court approval for warrants to arrest an additional 39 rally leaders for violating the emergency decree, centre chief Chalerm Yoobamrung said yesterday.

The CMPO has already obtained 19 arrest warrants for rally leaders, and ordered assistant national police chief Lt Gen Winai Thongsong to take custody of them without using force. Police are confident they can detain the suspects within a year.

A dozen special task forces headed by senior police officers would be appointed to arrest the 19 leaders of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), he said, adding that police would not move to disperse the protesters.

Chalerm said he had been told that Suthep Thaugsuban stayed on the 11th floor of the Dusit Thani Hotel, protected by heavily armed men. On Wednesday, Suthep went to the 18th floor of the Intercontinental, and at 2am went back to the Dusit Thani and slept on the 18th floor. Suthep travels with a convoy of three cars and 50 motorcycles.

Chalerm said he would inform the hotels that there are two arrest warrants out for Suthep and if they do not cooperate in capturing him, they would face legal action.

He said if he did not catch the suspects, he would face charges of dereliction of duty. Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed him against using force or violence, he reiterated.

Thaworn Senneam, who is among the 19 PDRC leaders wanted by police, said he would continue his mission of uprooting the "Thaksin regime" and would surrender after accomplishing this task.

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said the CMPO should not discriminate against PDRC leaders, and arrest wrongdoers from all political groups. He cited incidents such as the Lak Si district attack, saying rival political groups had violated the law.

Abhisit said caretaker Deputy PM Pol General Pracha Promnog had used his personal helicopter to transport red-shirt hardliner Kwanchai Praipana from Udon Thani to Rama 9 Hospital after he was shot and seriously wounded. Pathum Thani hardcore red-shirt leader Wutthipong "Ko Tee" Kotchathammakhun escaped and fled to Hong Kong, he said.

"If there is evidence that state officials give suspects any favours, the officials must face legal action. The state of emergency does not protect officials who resort to discrimination,'' Abhisit said.

What's the point of getting more arrest warrants when you're too useless to actually serve those warrants and arrest someone?

What's the point of knowing where Suthep sleeps when your police are too gutless to go after him?

Suthep is on stage every night making speeches. Go arrest him if you have the balls. Having a million arrest warrants with 0 arrests just shows everyone how toothless the CMPO and the Poo government is.

The CMPO seem to be attempting to take prisoners, is this in anticipation of a exchange agreement after the cease fire becomes affective?

Wonder who will be valued the most, the corrupt , the anti government protesters. Ministers, or Pm, ?The Thai public may be up to the evaluation, after the smoke has cleared.

Hey Chalerm ... where are you? thought you were gonna arrest Suthep?

Your disguise so good even you do not know who you are?

Stop spewing crap with no follow up ... if you say you are gonna do something .. do it

If Suthep does get arrests, I bet Chalerm will be nowhere close ... to scared to get shot, too scared to do anything

What about all the other protesters out on the streets in the so called emergency decree, are they immune from arrest or are the leaders your only target as the law has been broken by more than the protest leaders, just thought I would point this out.bah.gif

" Police are confident they can detain the suspects within a year."

In a year they will have forgotten who to arrest ,the entire police force should be given a week to arrest 39

suspects or heads should roll from the chief of police downwards for incompetence and inability to perform

the job your being overpaid for .......

so the dsi wants the protest leaders arrested while assisting the red leaders to escape, that sounds about right for the ptp lap dogs. Once again we see the hypocracy of the dsi/police/ptp in action, what a pathetic bunch of morons.

And the world is being told that its the 4 legged mamals in the world who are threathening the envirnment by their emission of methane gases. If this bunch ever gets close to an open flame, most of Thailands problems would be solved.

What's the point of obtaining all these arrest warrants? They are just thrown into the bottom drawer and none are executed. The only person to be arrested so far is the foreigner from India.

WRONG! the ones to be arrested are the whole damn lot of the present 'caretaker!'

Strangely the caretaker government is the least responsible for Thailand's current chaos. The fact is that a few democrat wimps and their back pocket Army Officers are conspiring with a madman in a campaign to resume the oppression of the proletariat. Somehow in among the elitist Thai and their elitist army officers always win. If that is good for Thailand or not I am unable to judge because I have lived the childish behavior and rhetoric for a score of years. The outcome is always the same. Thailand gets nowhere and the proletariat bend over an take it.

Strangely enough the undemocratic attempts to push through a modified blanket amnesty bill was only the action which finally got people protesting. With all obfuscation by Ms. Yingluck and more powerful rubbish by Pheu Thai people the situation escalated.

Somehow the Amply Rich miscalculated as to what the Thai people could stomach.

As for the 'proletariat' I assume you refer to the poor and less well off, like those getting sh__ed by the Pheu Thai led government which lost 400++ billion on rice price pledging, didn't pay some bills since earlier last year and still blames others.

Well, right now, the proletariat including rice farmers are getting bent over and shafted by the remnants of the once glorious PTP and their fearless Facebook leader.

The caretaker PTP are solely responsible for the enormous financial mess that their DL Thaksin created.

Lies, cheating, obfuscation every day.

We will see how many likes you get for your obsequious support of the fast becoming unsupportable PTP.

They are on life support now, let's wait until the monks arrive.
