All that I have seen regarding this just doesn't seem clear ... there are too many 'we'll sort that out later' answers to questions so before they decide I just hope they get a full overview of the facts and consequences before deciding as it affects everyone

Exactly!

There was a resounding No in the referendum in the 70's. Hollywood's version of Wallace's life is the only thing to have changed since. I don't believe all Scots are that stupid!

In the referendum in the 70s the majority voted for devolution, but they did not reach the second criterion of 40% of the electorate, and therefore devolution did not proceed. That 40% criterion was only used that once, for the devolution referendum.

Unusually, the Scottish government has chosen to allow minors between 16 and 18 to vote in the upcoming referendum.

The question then is 'Were those that did not vote actually casting a Silent No, knowing the 40% criterion was in place, or did they just not give a sh1t?

The 40% criterion is, IMHO, a good idea for such an important decision. Is it in place for the upcoming referendum.

Imagine if such a criterion had to be met before any [single] political party could form a government. It would change the face of politics - don't you think? And maybe not such a bad idea!

I don't believe the majority of Scottish people want Independance, mainly the self seeking Alex Salmond. This week he appears to have boxed himself into a corner,he wanted to stay with GBP, And has been told in no uncertain terms, that there is no chance of Scotland staying with GBP,which has spoilt his plans of joining the EEA without taking on board the EURO.

I suspect this will be one of many upsets between now and the vote in September! but i'm sure the People will vote wisely and keep membership of the UK!

go for it scotland. not sure i'd want salmond as my leader though... and its going to be fun watching it all unravel; too many 'if's' and 'maybe's' at the moment. and no plan B for the currency, hummm... glad its not my country.

BRITISH oxygen molecules that drift into an independent Scotland must be sent back immediately, it has been claimed.

hadwall-copy.jpg

A deafening klaxon will sound every time some oxygen passes over this wall

The leaders of the three main political parties warned that an independent Scotland would have no automatic right to use Britain’s sovereign gases.

Prime minister, David Cameron, said: “If the Scottish Nationalists think there is going to be a free flow of gases back and forth across the border then it’s obvious they know very little about the nature of gas.

“Gases like to stay put. In much the same way as water.”

Nick Clegg, the self-styled ‘deputy prime minister’, said: “I would prefer to breathe Franco-German oxygen. I also think that Scottish people should breathe Franco-German oxygen, I just don’t think they should be allowed to breathe British oxygen if they’re not British anymore.

“So, anyway, that’s what I think.”

Meanwhile, Labour’s Ed Miliband warned: “We’ll know if you’ve breathed our oxygen because, when we get it back, it won’t be oxygen anymore. It’ll be carbon dioxide.

“I used to be the energy minister, so I’m basically a scientist.”

Bill McKay, from Edinburgh, said: “Oh well, that’s that. You can’t just ‘make’ oxygen. Or maybe you can.

“I’ve really no idea.”

Thick as a whale omelette !!! Hahahaha

The Scots are voting to leave The United Kingdom (not England who are only another part of the UK).

Geography one of your best subjects? Probably thinks Whales is that part of England just southwest of Liverpool. And heard they make lousy omelettes

Scouser mentality!

And where would your Reds be if not for all the Scots in its history.

Salmons and the SNP want Scotland to be separated/independent from the rest of the UK.

Yet they want to retain the £ sterling.

Keep the monarch.

Remain part of the EU.

Am I missing something?

Was watching Question Time of UKTV (and Any Questions on Radio 4) both had a fair amount of talk about it. The picture looks worse and worse for an independent Scotland. They want to remain in Europe (indeed it is necessary for them), but European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso said as an independent state it would have to apply for entry into the EU and would need unanimous member state approval - he doubt's Spain(for example) would give it for fear of Catalan following suit. It was also said that, since 2003, the EU rules state that ALL new entrants MUST adopt the Euro, so they could not keep the pound even if they wanted to. BoE also would not allow fiscal sharing - so a Scottish Pound would be to the British Pound (Sterling) as the American Dollar is to the Hong Kong Dollar - nothing but a name.

Incidentally, Scotland once used the dollar - the Thistle Dollar (Tudor times) - and the USA got the Dollar from the Spanish smile.png

I am Scottish and have a vote...which I will be using to say YES.

I am Scottish and don't have a vote because I 'left the building' just after I graduated and became part of Scotland's famous diaspora (oil field trash in my particular case).

The English couple that rent one of my Aberdeen homes does have a vote because they are 'resident'.

Regardless that I am Scottish born and bred with absolutely no fuzzy-wuzzies or nig-nogs buggering up the centuries of my clans pure Alban genealogy. Regardless of the fact that my family home is in Scotland and that the half-Thai spawn of my loins (also with UK citizenry) may chose to be educated, work and live there.

Sir Sean Connery, who lives in well-publicised, self-proclaimed tax exile in the Bahamas says he will come back when Scotland is free. I hear that the SNP have afforded him a 'special case' vote despite being 100% non-resident himself.

<deleted> you Mr Salmond and all who sail in you.

I just wish the Welsh had the same option!

The Welsh hate the English more than us. We dont hate them only laugh at them. They even hate each other. The North hate the southern po-fs. I think maybe they should come with us on our adventure into the unknown.

We will move to the euro eventually.

Keep the monatch wont last.

Being in the EU has nothing to do with wanting independence from the UK.

You are missing that Scots want to decide for themselves what to do in their own country. We dont want London to decide only because of population size.

Great statement...Been a few decent Scots in the Liverpool team. Probably no history if not for us. After all his daft posts. I wish they joined Everton instead.
