Here's the url:

members.ams.chello.nl/danblokker/index.html

This refers top a website (not mine) about holidays for disabled people in Chiang Mai (search for disabled chiang mai on google).

The site is blocked.......

I'm sure I previously visited this website without problems, and saw no naked wheelchair users!!

Who on earth makes these decisions to block websites? I assume they are not accountable for their actions...(TiT)

Probably it was in competition with a "local" site ..gotta love the cybermobsters

If only these pesudo-cyberinspectors knew what they are doing... It's getting quite annoying lately. Clearly shows it's not what you know but who you know here that will get you that job which requires skills and knowledge.

This is disgusting! :o Might be they can reach something through the Dutch Embassy as they are Dutch.

I thought these "specialists" were only after porno, however they never reach their goal, never.

Was talking to a Thai hotelier/restaurant owner in C.M on last visit who was crying into his beer because his best client was SAGA holidays and they had cancelled their contract with him. :o

It seem that ther punters (esteemed guests) wanted to go somewhere with a bit more action to it and Chiangers was too quiet..

SAGA specialise in jollies for believe the over 60/65s.... :D

Just checked my company-mail, using 'mail2web.com'.

Cyber cops put a bar on, hovering over the box showing MY incoming mail.

Now, if they only could help me to get rid of all these viagra- and cialis-mails.

Doublecheked a friends mail-box by using mail2web, no problem.

Seems they are taregeting my server outside of Thailand?

Well this is not surprsing! We all know that most things here are run illogically from a Western point of view. Whilst I fully agree with the absurdity of this move! I would suggest we try and stay one step ahead of this stupidity, by taking steps!

Yep... just tried with a True ADSL line... it's is indeed blocked !

But you know what.... i start wondering... they blocked this URL because the word "member" appears on it ! ?

:o

Everything is possible.

Presumably the website is targeted at disabled people in Holland and or Belgium who are looking for a holiday in Thailand. I assume that these people can view the site with no problems on their browsers in Europe, so it is not really a problem for the site owners, would they have got much business from Thai based customers, I think not. But I do agree that blocking is a pretty stupid practice.

Always do, as long as they do not block mail2web...

OK, have a few more, of course.

Not very serious anyway, a company who wants to organize handicap tours using a free website :o

Slightly related, it always get me how many Asian companies and even public services use free email providers such as hotmail as their official email address. Unbelievable!

I know this is an old thread, but I was browsing around and saw it. I just got access to the web site mentioned and it has a virus:

So maybe that's why it was blocked. :o

Look what I got when loading that page from Switzerland:

To me, it looks like a spamming site that opens up a lot of new windows with advertisements on my monitor. This is one of the windows I had on my screen:

I have found Thailand to be pretty much unaccessible to the disabled, I leave my wheelchair home because I would have to roll down the streets off of the side walks and get run over, the BTS and Metro lines elevators are always out of order, and there is no way it would fit in any of the saloon metered taxis, but I can't see that being a reason to block the site. Yes there is an ad for hemp products at the bottom of the page, but it is a blind link that goes to a pop-up laden "search" page.

As for companies using public e-mail address as contacts, I don't blame them. A couple of business I use have contact us form pages that work maybe 50% of the time, so they also have public webmail addresses (1 uses yahoo.co.uk the other uses gmail) If I get no response from the online form I use the webmail address and have found it to be much more reliable. Thailand's internet is sub-standard IMHO. And the censorship software they use is indiscriminate. I have had no problem getting to adult sites with TrueADSL, but have been blocked getting to some US news sites and many other sites that I don't see as having anything objectionable.

Chello is one of the biggest broadband providers in Holland, so any website you see on there can be very easily traced back to the owner (the broadband subscriber, which normally has his real name in the URL)!

So you'll normally never see illegal stuff on there, only, most stuff legal in Holland will land you in jail in Thailand of course :o

Strangely enough, all those above mentioned sites are perfectly accessible using CAT ADSL!

Hi :o

Page opens fine for me here - TRUE ADSL, Lad Phrao. "English" link too, no problem.

Of the other three mentioned pages, one does no longer exist and one shows a new URL at sourceforge. The third one opens fine too.

Best regards....

...Actually, this site is not specifically banned. They have banned ALL the sub-domain...

Yep, many websites have been mistakenly blocked because thai authorities are a bit careless and block more than necessary. I remember awhile back when the entire NetFirms.com domain was blocked because of 1 "undesirable" website. By blocking the entire domain, they effective blocked well over a million websites that were totally unrelated.

I just checked the above mentioned site and it wasn't blocked on my connection at all, including the english version.

Perhaps it was banned 2 years ago when the OP first wrote it but now it is available :o

The web site wasn't actually available to me when I tried the link (on Maxnet), but recently I installed a Firefox add-on called "404: File is Not Found? Now it will be!" - a very long and slightly silly name, but it did the job: it detected the 404 error and automatically retrieved the page from "archive.org".

I'm a little worried about the posters who have tried the link and NOT got a virus warning. I think you should do a Kaspersky online virus scan of your C: drive from here.

Even though I aborted the connection, as my "avast!" software told me to do, I later restarted Firefox with that link in a tab, and the virus came down. Kaspersky found it in my Firefox cache [\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.xxxxx\Cache\_CACHE_003_], which I then deleted.

Kaspersky called it "Trojan-Downloader.JS.Psyme.me".

TOT ... no problem. No blocks at all .... Seems to me though that these people have neither a Dutch certification or are TAT licensed.

Could also be links their hosting, (like the Hemp.com products, etc), :o

This one gets my vote. Hemp=Drugs, so ban. I have the same problem with some bit torrent sites that have links/ads to adult content.
