I thought Indonesia (Bali) would be on the high list but I suppose it's an unofficial state of Australia and as the second column shows, they get injured but don't die.

I suspect the "mainly elderly visiting retirees passing away" accounts for a lot of the Ockers as well.

What are the raw numbers meant to represent? Only 24 Australians died in the US last year?

It is generally accepted, but not written into law, that quoting the first two or three sentences of an article and giving a link to the source is considered “fair use” and not a violation of copyright.
