PATTANI: -- A 28-year-old wife of a police officer in Yaring district of Pattani province was shot and burned alive by southern militants while she was shopping at a village fresh market.

The militants left a message by her charred body which reads “this is a reward for our three children killed by your people, we will kill as long as your people are still living on our soil.”

Yaring district police investigator Pol Maj Sakda Chanchee said he was alerted of the brutal killing at about 6.00 p.m. yesterday

The victim was identified as Mrs Benjaporn Kuathung, the wife of Sgt Narasak Kedaeng working at Radabanyang police station.

Benjaporn drove to Banpangkap market to shop. As she was walking in the market, a gunman approached and fired two shots on her head, while aother poured petrol on her and then lit the fire.

The brutal murder was made in front of several shoppers and vendors at the market but nobody dared to intervene.

The perpetrators also stole away her Honda Jazz sedan.

A massive hunt was ordered but found no trace of the stolen car. Police said they believed the perpetrators might be in nearby village.

When rabid animals run loose and commit acts in this fashion, its time to change the rules of engagement... in other words , play more by their rules of the uncivilized. The rule of law , as we currently know it, should be put on stand by.

Whatever your faith , dear lady, may you rest in peace.

I understand what you are saying but in this new politically correct world, people would be condemning Thailand if they didn't tread softly and respected the rights of these people.

The brutal murder was made in front of several shoppers and vendors at the market but nobody dared to intervene.

The final five words here are key. People have to get involved if these disgusting acts

are to be extinguished. Think of the third plane at 9/11, or the efforts of passers-by at

Glasgow Airport. Nobody should stand by and watch - they should "intervene."

She was walking into a market. A gunman approached and put two bullets in her head.

Do you realize how fast something like this happens, and how long it would take the average person to realize what's happening and even begin to try to intervene? How does someone without a gun take on a shooter?

A second person pours gas on her and lights it.

Even if that happened in the US with me as a bystander carrying my Glock 23, I don't think I could react fast enough to understand what's happening, draw, aim and fire and stop the shooting. The perps were probably so focused on the woman that I could probably shoot both of them, but I couldn't save the woman.

I wasn't thinking of the lady herself, rather the "several

shoppers and vendors" that watched the goings-on.

The perps left a note next to a charred body. They were

there long enough for someone to get involved.

I can find no justification for such a barbaric and cowardly act. To me this is nothing to do with bystanders intervening or wiping out of Muslims.

It is a cruel deliberate act and I don't care who did it, they need stopping.

Burning the wife alive is horrifying retribution. But the article raises the issue of the three (3) children killed that the retribution note indicated. The newspaper made no effort to explain these deaths or investigate these deaths or charges. Burning the police wife's body alive is no excuse, but we need to understand what they are referring to about the death of three children at the hands of Thai police.

It has been well documented in Thai and local English language media that the killing of the three children was an act of revenge against the father. The father was out on bail for murdering a local government representative during some form of personal/business dispute. It was announced last week that a special task force has been established to identify the killers and bring them to justice.

The terrible violence in the OP and propaganda message is more than likely to try & incite an overreaction by Thai security forces that will lead to more people joining the insurgency and the cycle constantly repeating itself. For all concerned let's hope Thai security forces respond in a professional & disciplined manner.

shows just how cowardly these terrorists are, time for the army to go in and just wipe them out, no more pussy footing around.

Hmmm. Interesting. So how many Muslims in the south would you wipe out? 10? 100? 1000? 10000? 100000?

and how many of them would be terrorists? Or would you include families of terrorists? Or additionally include known associates of terrorists?

Before you pussy foot around with your ideas on what is going on in the South, together with your unworkable solution, I suggest a couple of weeks reading up on the history might help.

Sorry to see such a brutal murder of an innocent spouse. Unforgivable abhorrent behaviour.

I don't have a solution, seeing as UN peacekeeping mission have failed so so miserably in the past all over the world. One thing is for sure, until Thai mainstream politics are sorted, the South will continue to suffer.

Do they include families of law enforcers ? Hell yes they do.

So should I include families of terrorist ? Hell yes I would

Isn't there in Muslim law something like an eye for eye, a tooth for a tooth ?

Time to apply their own laws to them.

It's biblical, Old Testament I think. Sharia law still applies it though. However it does mean that it can only be applied to the actual perpetrator of each crime.

It can be a barbaric vengeance based form of justice as can calling for a "sins of the father" approach to justice.

Justice should mean that all are treated equally and fairly. You cant blame the families of these murdering scum, these terrorists alone are to blame for what they did and should be treated according to their crime.

That is just terrible, the poor woman. To think these people even did it in front of other shoppers without a care in the world.

message by her charred body which reads “this is a reward for our three children killed by your people, we will kill as long as your people are still living on our soil.”

When they say soil are the speaking of Thai soil or muslim soil?

Could be wrong but I think the Brits gave Thailand a large chunk of Malaysia around 1909 and then there was more after WW 2. Thailand has not helped its 'southern cause' by the treatment of Muslims over the years. As for these pitiless murderers ... a slow bullet up the asre would do the trick ... gutless thugs.

Southern Thailand Muslim communites have had problems for a long time with Buddist Thailand.

Sinc about 10+ years ago, The conflict has dramatically intensified since the early Thaksin Government policies and years.

There is never an excuse for violence. Especially those not diretly involved in the conflict.

Unfortunately there will probably not be an end until both the Thai Government and the Muslim community are able to productively talk and come to agreements.

There are no adjectives strong enough to describe individuals that murder innocent women and children. It is the most contemptible behaviour of a human being possible.

Those guilty must be found and held accountable by all (legal) means necessary.

A very sad post.

RIP

A lot of good comments for both sides here but at the risk of being repetitive.............where are the S.O.G.'s? or even Sean Connery for that matter? No need to wipe out 10 or 100 or 1,000 or 10,000. Just one...........the right one.
