Hello! My partner and I are Canadians and we're hoping to base ourselves in Thailand for 6 months. Our plan is to fly into Thailand and receive the initial 30 day freebie visa; then before that runs out, we would cross into Laos and apply for a 60-day visa. From what I understand, it's then possible to get that visa extended for another 30 days. After that runs out, we were hoping to cross the border again and apply for second 60-day visa. Is that doable? Or will we likely have problems trying to apply for a second 60-day visa?

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate any advice you can offer.

It would be best to get 2 entry tourist visas before you travel. It only takes a few days to get them and you can do a mail application to one of the many locations to you can get them. See:http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/general-visa-info/where-obtain-visa-in-canada

The visa would cost CAD 40 per entry. This visa would give you almost 6 months stay or you could get a 3 entry visa that would give you more flexibility.

For a 30 day visa exempt entry you will need a onward or return ticket within 30 days of arrival or you may be denied boarding of your flight.

Thanks! That's really helpful! One more question - we're both freelance writers who earn our income online. Is it likely to be a problem if we list that as our occupation on our application forms? Is that technically considered working in Thailand?
