I found a thread where this was discussed before and wanted to bump it but, already archieved.

Anyway, for the past 3 years, I have been able to call US toll free (though not toll free outside the US) 1-800 numbers by dialing 008-1800 or 009-1800 for a reduced price in calling on my land line. A few days ago, it was urgent for me to call my bank and, neither 008 nor 009 worked. So, I tried direct with 001 (more expensive of course) and that was also blocked. After a dozen phone calls to TOT yesterday (and 8 hours later), the 001 prefix works but 008 and 009 are still dead but only with 1-800 numbers, other numbers to the states work fine with either prefix. The technical line at TOT says they are working the problem but, they could just be a brush off.

I can use the 008 and 009 dialing prefixes on my 1-2 call mobile but, not my TOT land line. I have called TOT 3 times today and each time they tell me to "try again one hour".

Is there an alternative to TOT? Does anyone use True? does 008 or 009 1-800 work with them?

Skype is not an alternative. My internet is not clean enough to use Skype. I have tried it before and the calls drop frequently.

any suggestions or recommendations?

I had a problem trying to call my credit card company, and eventually convinced them by email that it was a serious problem that they just didn't recognize, particularly as they refused to do anything without a phone call.

Eventually, I persuaded them to phone me at an appropriate time. I now have an email contact with someone responsible there, and can have him call me on my mobile at my convenience.

With a TrueMove-H post-paid SIM, I can call 1-800, 1-866, 1-888 USA numbers by dialing 00600 as a prefix. I think I had to register with True to be able to do that, like maybe establish a credit limit or something?

Just for the record CAT is the operator of the International Gateway. The system could be busy due to unusual amount of connections. Power outage wouldnt do it as all Telecoms is supplied with a back up source. It could be your phone. A quick switch off and on should resolve it if it is

I wish it was that simple. it works fine on my cell, just not on my land line. 001 works on my landline, just 008 and 009 don't. over the weekend, 001 did not work and TOT reset something and now I can get through on my landline with 001. but, with 008 or 009, nothing just a steady beeping. I can call with no problems on my cell.
