Popular Post Prbkk
do people make the same stupid responses when reports come out from those that get killed from friendly fire? Why is this "infighting" or something do to with fascists? I don't think most have any idea what they are posting, just posting something negative for the sake of getting "something" out there regardless of whether or not has anything of value, unless of course that's the idea and it's deliberate. When they turn on each other you know the fat lady is warming up and ready to go...

Emptyset
Just another fun night with the scum of the Earth. God help Thailand if these cretins ever get to overthrow the Government and instal themselves into positions of real authority. Tangential here perhaps but 'Scum of the Earth' (Nak Phaendin) is actually an anti-communist song historically popular with rightist protesters. For instance, it was played by the right in the lead up to the massacre at Thammasat in 76 and by the PAD. Not sure if it's been played by the more nationalist segments of the current protesters, e.g. the STR, but people have mentioned hearing anti-communist songs from the 70s era being played by them so it's likely. Pipkins' take on the nightly gunshots and bombings, the tortured and murdered PDRC suppoter, the assassinated leader? "Protest against Thaksin and you will be beaten to a pulp or shot!" As I said before (also to you I think), there's no reason to automatically attribute the torture and killing of the PDRC supporter to the other side. Could've been either side. However, the grenade attacks, killing of Suthin etc, I believe were carried out by the govt side - either independently or with govt knowledge (not necessarily by the red shirts specifically though, could be elements in the police & local MPs involved in some attacks). Although I don't agree with what the PDRC are doing, there's no excuse for what amounts to terrorism. It's indefensible. However, I disagree with labelling a large group of people (red shirts) "thugs". I don't agree with those who label PDRC supporters thugs either. A minority may be, but most are just ordinary people who generally shun violence just like other ordinary non-protesters tend to shun violence. Protest movements tend to get judged by their most extreme elements though, unfortunately. A totally peaceful protest which has gone on for months can be undone by the actions of a tiny minority in a matter of minutes.

I think you're confusing the defining traits of facism with common characteristics of fascist movements. I'm sure you're well-aware of what happened on the Night of the Long Knives in Nazi Germany. People are less familiar with the fascist infighting in Mussolini's Italy (look up the name Italo Balbo and the events in the 1920s in Ferrara). The fact of the matter is that Fascism's 'might makes right' ethic and its poorly defined ideology (usually defined in opposition to other 'movements') creates internal tensions that often break out into violence. Of course, this is not true of Fascism alone... communist regimes have also often experienced violent infighting in their formative periods... So if the link shows the 14 traits of a fasict can you tell me the 15 principles of democracy? Or only 1? Elections... Pipkins, it remains to be seen if the PDRC will become a fascists regime given the opportunity. However, I do agree with you that they do show some warning signs as djjamie points out. Djjamie, I took the time to follow your link to the democratic underground, and is this really the say all end all to how we interpret what's going on in Thailand? Really? Anyway, the PDRC is making great progress with 7 of your 14 traits of a fascist. 1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. -Very clearly, the PDRC is using the Thai flag as their rallying symbol.3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. -PDRC is using Yingluck as the perceived common foe.4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. -Debatable if this is taking place now.. 6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. -Blue Sky, say no more.8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. -Buddha Issara.9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. -We'll find out who the PDRC supporters are very soon, and I have a feeling they will be the industrial and business aristocracy. 14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections. -Well, I guess they can't be fraudulent if you don't allow them, so I'll give this one to djjamie - not. Skills32 - your points are totally argumentum ad hominem, and therefore completely invalid and a waste of time. Please reply that I have less than 30 posts and should therefore be ignored. animatic
If only half the people screaming FASCIST new the definition of fascism. fas·cism : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government : very harsh control or authority 1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition 2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control <early instances of army fascism and brutality — J. W. Aldridge It says nothing about whether they were democratically elected or self installed. So looking Back on Thaksin's days running Thailand As PM, or controlling Samak, Somchai or Yingluck, the things that are most apparent are: a government ruled by a dictator • only Thaksin could make decisions, a centralised autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader in Bangkok telling all how HE wants it. people are not allowed to disagree with the government • newspapers were hobbled, reporters sued with billion baht suits, the no questions sign he held up at a press conference etc. severe economic and social regimentation • The country now forced to live under the PTPs unworkable economic concepts. To the point farmers are committing suicide because they have been screwed beyond their ability to stand it. and forcible suppression of opposition • Well we can see the efforts to suppress the opposition, they aren't even allowed to speak in Parliament and the rallies in protest are being shot at an grenades thrown at them. Of course the PR effort to call Suthep a fascist is designed to distract from the fact there is a obvious fascist pulling the strings of power now. And has been for much of the last decade. It makes no difference his physical location, it is the control that matters. Power abused regardless of loci. And THAT is the main reason the rallies are not stopping; fear of a real world fascist in power, serially getting the job done wrong, and he is not going to stop except through extreme measures to set the ship of state back upright.
