Why is a bloke who is on the board of companies on the board of a counter corruption committee?

None of his companies EVER been accused of paying one satang under the table anywhere as a facilitation payment? Don't blow him up, but this is absolutely a massive conflict of interest to be sitting on this committee

A conflict of interest is not a crime. It only becomes so when the conflicted person fails to declare such a conflict and recuses themselves from affected decisions.

Who says its a crime. Its just a massive conflict of interest and either he shouldn't have been asked to take the job, or he should have given up his other roles beforehand.

This is not a role for people involved in business and industry. Pure and simple.

It would help if you actually made the effort to read through the thread before commenting.

The ACT is an organisation that attempts to reduce corruption by promoting open practices in business and public policy, and promote public awareness of good governance. The ACT did protest to the government about the amnesty bill, because it's goal of white-washing corruption was incompatible with the goals of the ACT. The ACT is not involved in any investigation of corruption in the PTP.

ACT is not the National Anti Corruption Commission, even though that may better serve your next conspiracy theory.

The government has been using the softly, softly approach against Suthep and his 5 supporters and this is really getting up his goat. He wanted a military coup but the government didn't play into his hands and now he has resorted to new tactics, try and get the ACT chairman offside with the government. Just my opinion.

So the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission is also chairman of the board of Toyota Motor Thailand and a board member of Siam Cement Group. And he's tasked with finding conflicts of interest...

I agree with you - Thakshi* was Primeminister and Chairman of Shincorp and look at the problems and the corruption that caused- But never again eh?

Excellent ground to sue the government. Their minister's preparing hit lists for their red shirt militants to take out.

Why does it have to be red shirts ALL the time. It could be others from sutheps band of thugs also.

Problem is.................it IS always red shirts because theyre following orders from Dubai and they dont feel the consequesnces!!

Excellent ground to sue the government. Their minister's preparing hit lists for their red shirt militants to take out.

It's not a "hit list." It's a list of sedition and anarchy sponsors. In any democratic country, a seditionist anarchist group that commandeers public facilities, government offices, and breaches security is arrested immediately and charged. Investors are investigated and arrested on charges of sponsoring and funding sedition.

Like Thaksin was?

I get a bit confused sometimes. When he says - .............. "a seditionist anarchist group that commandeers public facilities, government offices, and breaches security is arrested immediately and charged. Investors are investigated and arrested on charges of sponsoring and funding sedition."................is he talking about what is happening today or what went on in 2010 ?

Either way if what he is saying is true Thaksin has a lot to answer to !

Ah yes - the Cement Industry - widely recognised throughout the world as one of the most rottenly corrupt industries!

I used to blame Suthep and Abhisit for all the political problems that have affected Thailand in recent years, now I realize it has been the cement industry all along. whistling.gif

Wonder what 'concrete' evidence they might be, to support this ? rolleyes.gif

suthep's people are carrying all types of firearms, maybe they are doing all this just to get people to believe it is the other side doing it. Remember this is Thailand and suthep did oreder the killing of 90 people three years ago.

Do you have any evidence of either of your accusations?

No. As usual simply telling a good story and hoping someone might believe it.

You put forward the theory, that Suthep arranged these latest shootings as part of his plan to cause trouble between the ACT chairman and the caretaker government and instigate a military coup.

All you own imagination and not a shred of evidence? And you're a cop?

An opinion is just that. You don't need evidence or facts to have an opinion. Yes I am a cop and I have submitted many briefs to coroners based on my opinions to which the coroner agrees. I have also submitted many briefs to the courts which rely on facts. Opinions and facts are two deferent things and everyone including yourself is entitled to an opinion.

If I was investigating this incident then I would investigate on my opinion.

I thought it was the yellow lot that throw the tantrums when they lose elections, invading public property and disrupting every day life. I know there are idiots on both sides as well as many with good intensions, but on balance I think from any impartial observer viewpoint it's the yellows who take the biscuit!

F* we get tired of reading this

This continued use of firearms is appalling. Its time these people learnt that Thailand is not a US highschool

In The today's newsfeed by TV staff #17 headline reads : Uzi machine-gun used to shoot up Pramon's home

The article goes on to read that the police say that the Uzi is the type of gun that has never been used in Thailand before. The police furthermore say that they could tell it was an Uzi by the ammo it used (from spent casings I suppose).

I have two issues with these statements by police.

I remember in the early 80s the police established motorbike patrols in Bangkok with two cops, the ones riding on the back carrying Uzis among other various weapons. So what happened to these Uzis? Did they forget about them? I've also seen Uzi's being carried by police in the Airport (Don Muang) in years past.

The second issue is .. Most Uzi's use 9mm ammo which is probably the most common (pistol) ammo in Thailand. So how could they tell it was an Uzi because of 9mm ammo casings ... unless of course the Uzi has obvious and distinctive markings or deforming the spent casings unique to the Uzi ... which may perhaps be true under a microscope, but my impression was this was a cop making statements at the scene of the shooting before any lab work. My guess is there was an empty magazine at the scene and perhaps there was mistake in translation.

But then again why do they deny the Uzi has been used by Govt forces (including them) in Thailand?

Any of you former military/police have any insight into these issues?

Basically it makes me believe (as usual) the Thai police don't know what they are talking about and calls into question whatever conclusions they reach ... if any.

They are probably too busy trying to find who shot the red shirt mafioso Kwanchai ... to waste much time on someone like the head of the ACT anyway.

Who says its a crime. Its just a massive conflict of interest and either he shouldn't have been asked to take the job, or he should have given up his other roles beforehand.

This is not a role for people involved in business and industry. Pure and simple.

The Anti-Corruption Organisation Thailand (ACT) established in 2012 is a private sector established "Organisation" consisting of over 40 public and private companies. No jurisdiction on anything

http://www.anticorruption.in.th

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is a government agency tasked with dealing with matters related to investigating corruption. Jurisdiction where corruption is concerned

http://www.nacc.go.th/main.php?filename=index_en

So to get back to your point, yes it is a role for one involved in business and industry to be appointed the chairman of the organisation and no, it's not a conflict of interest.

But I'd hate the truth to get in the way of your conspiracy theory...
