BANGKOK, Feb 17 – Farmers have welcomed the government’s move to pay them Bt4 billion daily, starting today until the Bt130 billion in overdue payments are paid off within a month.

Vichien Puanglamchiak, president of the Thai Farmers Association, yesterday reacted positively to the statement by caretaker Deputy Prime Minister/Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan.

“This is the best news for farmers. We believe the government will keep its promise,” he said.

Mr Vichien said the receipts given to farmers after their delivered rice to millers under the subsidy scheme would be indefinitely valid to cash with the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

A rice receipt normally expires in four and a half months but farmers submitted their receipts much earlier in exchange for cash, he said.

The opposition Democrat Party called on caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to directly announce to farmers on payment details, including timeframe, amount of money and the location of the payment.

Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said the party economic team would closely monitor the government’s payment procedure to ensure that farmers receive their money.

“If the government is unable to pay farmers, it should return the rice to farmers so they could sell it (themselves). Farmers have been paying interest for their borrowings for the past 7-8 months,” he said. (MCOT online news)

Kittirat says farmers will be speedily paid in full amount

2-17-2014-10-51-22-AM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Caretaker Finance Minister Kittirat na Ranong reassured that all farmers will be paid in full and now the Finance Ministry is working closely with the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to pay farmers as soon as possible.

Posted in his Facebook page today, Mr Kittirat said all farmers who pledged their rice under the government’s rice pledging scheme and hold the rice vouchers will have rights to receive payment in full amount.

He said the Finance Ministry and the BAAC are working closely to ensure speedy payment.

He also reiterated the sincerity of the government to work fully for the farmers, and added that today would be a significant chance to see who really is sincere with the farmers and who is attempting to exploit the farmers’ plight as a political tool.

Good news for farmers. If they don't want the rice pledging scheme, they can always vote the government out. If they want the scheme, they should protect the scheme by not cheating and colluding with unscrupulous traders, millers, officials, and politicians, etc. They should work hard and support the government in fighting corruptions and irregularities and report corrupt traders, millers, officials and politicians etc. They should also not collude with saboteurs. It is good to know that no cabinet minister has been convicted of involving in irregularities and corruptions.

1. What is it with Thais doing business on facebook, of all places?

2. Note the clever wording.."will have rights to receive" -- having a right to something and actually receiving it are two completely different notions.

Dems - could not be arsed to take part in any elections but want to monitor the money trail. Take a running jump Abhisit.

Yet from yesterday we had the BAAC saying

The borrowed cash should relieve pressure on the government for at least a month, as the BAAC usually has the capacity to process payments of two billion to three billion baht per week.

But now the minister of white lies tells us the 130 billion will be paid within a month.

But then he never has been much good at maths.

this should read "the ptp/redshirt farmer leader" says its ok, in reality it is all bullsh*t and this man is simply a ptp plant to lie to the farmers again. Lets see exactly how many get paid, it will only be the reds/north east farmers that are ptp/redshirt faithful, the rest will be left wanting. The ptp/thaksin are getting desperate and using whatever means possible to stop their collapse,

What a ridiculous post! It wasn't the farmers, that were cheating, that was done by politicians and millers, traders etc, but not regular farmers. How come you think them farmers are cheating?

And they should work hard? How hard working are those, that demand hard work by others? Most times these "demanding" people don't even know hard work! I can tell that from my own experience, so don't give me any more of such crap. And btw., how are the farmers supposed to work hard, if they have no money to buy seeds, fertilizer or food that would be necessary to work hard???

Support the government? Support your local maffia and other exploiters, that would be more to the point. And the only fight the government has with corruption is the fight against multiple charges of corruption against themselves... None yet convicted, but a looong line of court cases is waiting for them!

What and why are you ranting?????

Then we have

BANGKOK, Feb 17 – The Government Savings Bank (GSB) admitted that it has granted Bt5 billion in loans to the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) amid opposition by the GSB labour union for fear that the loans would be paid to farmers under the government's rice pledging scheme.

So how they going to pay 4 Bn a day?

They only borrowed 5 Bn, in the first place.... illegally.

One comment goes straight to the farmers....... SUCKERS!!!!

I think he is asking if you have ever even looked out of the window instead of having your head buried in the 'The Bumper Book of Red Facts'

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/705024-farmers-break-into-thai-defence-compound-monday/

Spin that.

Are you sure and what has the link got to do with

Farmers hail Thai govt promise to pay overdue debts within month

We should be happy with the farmer and advice them accordingly, instead of wanting to see them miserable.
