Suvarnabhumi Airport warns over heavy traffic caused by anti-government rallies

BANGKOK, 20 February 2014, (NNT) -- Due to various rallies around Bangkok and its vicinity, all passengers travelling to Suvarnabhumi Airport have been advised to carefully check their routes or find alternative means of transport in order to avoid missing flights. Passengers should also leave for the airport at least 3-4 hours prior to their scheduled flights.

Suvarnabhumi Airport's announcement came amid heavy traffic congestion around the capital resulting from road closures by various anti-government rallies. In order to avoid missing flights, passengers should plan their traveling routes carefully and leave for the airport at least 3-4 hours ahead of scheduled flights.

Alternative route such as the airport rail link has also been suggested for passengers so as to avoid being caught in traffic. For more information, please call Airports of Thailand (AOT) at 1722 round the clock.

AoT board chairman begs farmers not to close Suvarnabhumi Airport to pressure caretaker govt to pay overdue payments under rice pledging scheme /MCOT

Would like to see the high and mightly Poo Yai of the AOT down on his hands and knees kow towing down to the rice farmers...live TV coverage preferable..

Of course until the AOT idiot, mentioned this, the farmers may not have thought of taking over the airport, he may have just put the idea in their heads...way to go Poo Yai AOT

this statement, out of the blue, might be a clue, that yellows are shifting their attention towards airports.

first that would be rather don muang.

farmers are at the suvarnabhumi arrival terminal for the last week, begging tourists for donations and explaining their situation

oh, I love to see the farmers close down BKK clap2.gif. Can see the baht take a nose dive.

Such selflessness. Then you can spend all those extra baht in a ruined economy.

Now back to more important things!

Have any farmers actually said that they would close down Swampy? I read that their target was the Finance (or was it Commerce?) Ministry to get try get paid. The headline seems like a deliberate scare tactic on someone's part, methinks.

Wow, that sure give them an idea.

Farmers are the one least affected when the airport close down; only Suthep's Bangkok Elite.

Last week the traffic from Sukhumvit To Suvarnabhumi was horrible. Thanks to the Mob at Asoke

Complete rubbish.

The protest at Asoke only blocks a very small part of Sukhumvit. I travel up and down Sukhumvit a few times a week and the traffic from Asoke to Bang-na Trad intersection is the lightest in years, Songkran excepted.

The AOT warning is stupid - there are no protests within a considerable distance of the airport. Apart from a few farmers at the airport looking for donations, what caused this 'warning'?

I've seen a few iron buffaloes at the airport already. Most of them had Thai livery. The farmers can't be too far behind.

Farmers from the North will have to drive their tractors pass Don Mueang airport, regardless.

Why not stop by for refilling and enjoy the air-condition.
