buying a new car - payment

Featured Replies

Hello,

so it is the first time i will buy a new car here in thailand, i am not sure about the payment.

I made a small deposit in cash when i ordered the car. What will be the best way

to pay the rest when the car arrive at the dealer shop. Payng in cash and exchange

money for car. Or paying by bank transfer? I have a bank account in thailand.

Thank you

Alex

Most dealers will want a bank draft. Best you ask them how they want to be paid...

get a cashier check about the left balance from you bank - cost 20 THB is as good as cash

get a cashier check about the left balance from you bank - cost 20 THB is as good as cash

Small correction - a Bank Draft and a Cashiers Check is only almost as good as cash - neither can be used at a 7/11 for example :)

OP: Ask your dealer how they want payment.. If you turn up with a Check, they may ask you to go back and get a Draft, or vice-versa...

When I bought my car the dealer wouldn't take a draft or a cashier's cheque.

It was a bank transfer or cash only.

I asked my dealer if a cashier's check was fine and he said yes. Handed it over and drove the car out that day.

It seems that someone who receive a cashier cheque has to pay a fee ?

(and the one who give the money also has to pay 20 baht)
