Can anyone please advise if there is any Quarantine requirement for Dogs coming into Thailand from Shanghai?

:o

Hi,

I don't think there is any quarantine if the papers for your pets are ok.

Maybe also check out the threads etc. as mentioned under ' Bringing dogs to Thailand'

Wishing you good luck and a wonderful time in Thailand,

No, sorry, have no experience in importing animals. All my four-legged kids are born and raised in Thailand. I get this kind of info through my customers who bring their pet with them when come to live here.

But so far I know you don't need one, you'll get one at the airport when your animal arrives. On those threads I've mentioned above, it is explained in more detail.

Unless your dog is so large that it cannot accompany you on the plane and has to be shipped separately as cargo, there is no reason to need or use an agent.

Check with the airlines re requirements for bringing the animal with you, varies by airline.

Have with you on arrival with the dog a recent certificate of good health from a vet and proof of current rabies and leptospirosis vaccination.

You are supposed to bring the dog to the Animal Quarantine station located near the baggage carousel to obtain an import license. Not particulalry hard provided the vet is there; some people have had problems especially if arriving outside government working hours. Also I have often noted even during working hours that the place looks empty. Anyhow, assuming the staff are there, they will do a "health inspection"which consists of little more than taking the dog's temperature, have you fill out some forms, and the whole bit will take 30 - 60 minutes. To avoid customs duties, declare it as "mixed breed".

Many people (myself included) opt to avoid this step and simply back on through withouyt stopping at Animal Quarantine station (especially if it doesn't look staffed). Should you chose to do so, be aware that you can in theory be subjected to a 10,000 baht fine (about US $250). Haven't actually heard of this occurring to anyone, and suspect just looking dumb and confused if stopped would solve it, but the risk exists. Up to you.

All incoming animals are "subject to 30 days quarantine" but this does not mean quarantine is automatic, only that it can be invoked at the discretion of Thai Animal Quarantine officials. Would be done only if they believed the animal to be ill. However the wording on their websire confuses a lot of people into thinking it's an automatic 30 day quarantine.

Makes no difference what country you brought the animal from.

If your dog is so large that it has to go separately on a cargo flight, then you have to pick him/her up at the cargo terminal and may well be charged an import duty.
