Rice farmers in Thailand have the lowest incomes compared to rice farmers in other ASEAN countries, despite rice mortgage program, says a study by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC).

The study claims that rice production costs in Thailand are high and profits low compared to other ASEAN countries like Vietnam and Myanmar. According to the study, rice production costs in Thailand are up to 139% higher than in Vietnam and about 37% higher than in Myanmar. While Thai rice farmers earn a profit of only 1,556 baht (around $47) per ton, farmers in Vietnam earn a profit of 3,180 baht (around $97.5) per ton and those in Myanmar are earn a profit of 3,484 (around $107) per ton, says the study.
