Popular Post webfact
POLITICSGroup issues statement saying govt is illegitimateThe NationBANGKOK: -- The caretaker government has lost the legitimacy to continue holding office after having breached the Constitution by seeking to divide the country, a statement from the Siam Prachapiwat group said yesterday. The group, which is also known as the Siamese People Progress, is composed of academics from eight universities led by Banjerd Singkaneti, dean of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).The statement, titled the "Demise of the Caretaker Yingluck Government", was read out by the deputy dean of NIDA, Pichai Rattanadilok na Phuket. The statement said the Yingluck Shinawatra administration had lost its status as a caretaker government because of its failed schemes and unlawful acts. The statement cited specific administration failures, such as the rice-pledging scheme, which has led to a massive loss of state funds and forced some farmers to take their own lives. The government has also failed to protect innocent protesters from being attacked by armed groups, the statement read."It is inevitable to suspect that the government is linked with these attacks.''The statement also pointed out that the February 2 elections were still incomplete, leading to the failure to open the House of Representatives."As long as the government insists on staying in power, there is no chance the House can be opened,'' Pichai said. The statement also said that the government's "organs" had violated the Constitution by resorting to violence to suppress and intimidate peaceful protesters, resulting in casualties, especially children. The group alleged that the government's supporters had taken up heavy arms in the belief that it would yield successful results as had happened during the 2010 red-shirt riots."The government's latest breach of the charter is a move to mobilise defence volunteers allegedly linked to attempts to divide the country by establishing an 'Isaan Lanna state'. The volunteers were not secretly mobilised but instructed to march in a show of force."The government and its components have repeatedly committed constitutional offences, so it can no longer cite excuses such as protecting democracy and the Constitution in order to stay in power," Pichai said.-- The Nation 2014-03-05

Popular Post millwall_fan
...and these people call themselves 'academics'! Their analysis is pathetic and childlike. Their opposition to the rice scheme is a political position - so form a party and fight elections. Farmers committed suicide because the forces of the Ruling Elite ganged up on the government to prevent them borrowing the requisite funds to pay them. It is totally unproven - and very unlikely that the government had anything to do with attacking peaceful demonstrators. It is very likely that the forces controlling the protesters fired on their own people in the Sukhumvit attack and on camera that they lobbed a grenade and fired weapons in the most recent skirmish. In any event, occupying government ministries for weeks on end cannot be described as peaceful protest, but as insurrection. The Feb 2nd elections are incomplete because the EC refuse to hold them and the PDRC would attempt to disrupt them. No wonder Thailands universities have such an appallingly poor international reputation and allegations of buying places and degrees persist. This group should put their own house in order before criticising others.

Popular Post Yunla
The statement said the Yingluck Shinawatra administration had lost its status as a caretaker government because of its failed schemes and unlawful acts. PTP are like an anchor chained to the ankle of this nation, slowing down essential progress and dragging all this pointless baggage along with it. When Yingluck hoved into view, this nation had a pressing list of urgent infrastructure work and regulatory overhauls that needed to be focused on. Work she assured us was a top priority for her. Instead we saw passports-for-crims, rice pledging failure and the immortal kids-tabs project. This party is not just corrupt, nor is it just slow to implement critical reforms, it is actually holding those reforms back by its inaction and obstinacy.

Popular Post kikoman
These are just a group allied with the ammart, as they are no more reliable in expressing the truth as the nation's media, this announcement was mean to stir the pot. To many it discredits the nations so called "academic's" if this is the best of the critical political analysis..The uneducated among the nation's farmers would come up with a better analysis of the problems that face the country! What's with you FEW people--the government had from BEFORE September to have funds and PAY, why you lot keep blaming others because your PTP did not want to part with the money when they had access to it. BLAME THE PTP and the chairperson P.M. but maybe she did not attend and the others too stupid to know what to do---my god what a set up.

Popular Post Lupatria
Siamese People Progress Aren't they about 75 or 80 years behind the times? The problem seems to be- according to the Buddhist calendar they think they are 543 years ahead. A wise guy once said: “Change the first digit in 2557 to 1 and you have the number of the year they are actually living in. Hence, you can expect the first industrial revolution to take place in about 200 years.”

"No wonder Thailands universities have such an appallingly poor international reputation and allegations of buying places and degrees persist. This group should put their own house in order before criticising others." This is a telling statement about how Thai academics are viewed by their international colleagues: "As for the academics, deep down no-one takes them seriously, except the royalist media – which again displays their real weakness. People are just being “polite” by going through the ritual of pretending to listen to them. That’s why the spectacle of University Presidents and Deans of Medical Schools coming out to support Suthep’s movement is much less significant than it appears." Source: "The weakness of theThai royalists", Dr Patrick Jory, New Mandala, 07.02.2014 The Nation is, of course, part of the royalist media.

Not really but many a dictator has used that line of logic to suppress opposition; no evidence needed, just suspicions. Maybe this group has listened to Suthep's speeches a few too many times.

Tit for tat postings, he said she said, my dad's bigger than your dad it's great entertainment, sure does pass the dull days, makes you wonder if anyone does any actual work, other than slagging each other off all day Both sides have said and done some dumb stupid stuff, from threatening to kidnap members of the caretaker Government, to splitting the country, never mind High season, it's dumb season!!
