router for wi-fi

Featured Replies

Can somebody tell me if it is possible that my router becomes weaker after some time..(1 yr) ?

My current router gave me a strong internet connection over a distance of approx. 40 mtrs..

Recently the usable distance is only about 20 mtrs..

Router or signal problem..?

Thanks for any expert opinion..

could be more routers in your area crossing over your channels.

try inSSIDer to see what else is in the neighborhood and to help you pick lesser used wifi channels to broadcast on.

as HooHaa said, maybe someone has put up a WIFI router with the same\near by channel..

use inSSIDer to find free channels, change router to use free channels, profit..

Ise INSSIDER free ?

Maybe easier to use WIFI ANALYZER on Android, which is 100% free !

If you decide to buy new, I'll give you some advice which should be very useful.

I bought 2 brand new modem/routers last year. Side by side the TP Link one is far superior to the D-Link one in terms of strength of signal.

I have had the same problem, router signal faded after 2 years use. Used inSSIDer and made sure it was on an unused channel, no improvment. New router and bang the signal strength is back where it should be. A colleague had exactly the same problem, signal fade after two years.

Some will tell you that a router should not lose signal strength over time as there is nothing that "wears" out. Technically that is true and even as an electronic engineer I have no explanation for it but it does seem to happen.
