"Foreign ministry officials in Rome and Vienna confirmed Saturday that names of two nationals listed on the manifest of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight match passports reported stolen in Thailand."

One of the passports was stolen nearly 2 years ago.

The implication here is that the passports were stolen specifically. The implication, too, is that they were stolen by or for farangs.

This has security implications for tourists and long-termers.

My understanding is that the two factors:

1. A mysterious sudden crash in a safe flying area with no warning

and

2. Stolen passports

has raised questions about there being terrorism involved with the assumed ocean crash.

But why hasn't an organization behind that taken credit?

What's the point of such terrorism without a message?

Well I guess one message might be, be more afraid of flying ... but again, for what purpose?

Western passports are easy to travel with. Sure. Pictures can be changed on such passports to show people of any ethnicity. The use of that word starting with F indicates white people. This isn't about white people any more than any other color of people.

I wonder if there were security cameras showing the people boarding. If so, process of elimination could show who used the passports.

I'm not saying it was terrorists, but they don't always take credit. It took a lot of international detective work to figure out who was responsible for the crash of the Pan Am 103 flight over Lockerbie Scotland. Link

there are always cameras ,no chance of getting near a plane thesedays without being on a number of cameras

many take a snapshot of every passeneger as on the way through security as well

Of course terrorism is high in people's minds, especially after China's recent train station massacre.

Or perhaps there is a new phenomenon since Bermuda seems to have quietened down recently. The South China Sea Triangle?

strange flight to target given the take off and destination points and demographic of the passengers

its a major hole in security that they were allowed to board on passports stolen 2+ years ago in thailand

a passport is supposedly blacklisted as soon as it is lost ..........or thats what they say but obviously not the case IRL
