Raid finds 17,000 marijuana plants (Cambodia)

Featured Replies

Authorities in Battambang province’s Banan district seized more than 17,000 marijuana plants and 16 kilograms of dried marijuana on Saturday in a raid on a farm that yielded three arrests, police said yesterday.

Banan district police official Theng Bunthorn said yesterday that farm owner Min Thavry, his wife, Kong Nuon, and worker Long Chreb had been arrested in the sting on Thavry’s property.

Deputy district police chief Thaung Then said that while the dried marijuana had been sent to court, “the fresh marijuana trees were not sent yet, and we are waiting for the prosecutor’s orders”, adding that Thavry was not a native of the area where he had set up his two-hectare farm.

According to Then, Thavry confessed to growing the marijuana for sale in Preah Vihear province, and told authorities that he hadn’t had a very easy time of it – his first crop was destroyed by floods last year, and this year’s crop was seized.

He also told police that he had been purchasing his seeds from Preah Vihear province, Then said.

But it was just a few plants for home use. smile.png

Somebody told me about a place in Phnom Penh called Happy Herbs Pizza and said that if you order a "happy" pizza it is has marijuana on it. I confirmed online that the place exists and does actually make their pizzas "happy" on request. Other information at the same source said that it is illegal to smoke marijuana in Cambo but legal for use as a herb in cooking, and that is what allows Happy Herb (and other copy-cat pizzerias) to do this. Sound unlikely to me, but a good urban legend.

Pizza: perfectly true 20 years ago. Now Happy Herb Pizza (and similar) is on the Riverfront. To be double checked. Anyway, it's not on the menu.

At this time, before the tourists arrived, "grass" was available at the market for $10 / kg. Old Ladies sold that to other old Ladies for personal consumption in a traditional use, like betel. Then guest houses opened on the Lake -where it was impossible to do not smoke- and it became too obvious and that lured foreigner cops.

End of story.

Thanks for the information.

It was Trip Advisor that I used to confirm my friend's story, and I found several recent posts saying that somewhere on the menu is the option to "happy" your pizza. The people who left messages seemed to get VERY happy from eating theirs, so maybe this culinary practice still exists in Cambo. If so, how civilized!

Grass has long been used in Cambodia in cooking an still is if u get out of the tourist areas.

you can get "happy Pizzas" at a two places on riverfront , in SR on Pub street an down in Shinoukville

Note; they also have a "happy Happy" but don't plan on getting anything done the rest of the day :-) thumbsup.gif.pagespeed.ce.dtxKiAJ9C7.gif

Its not the quality you get in Ca thou

I actually saw the happy pizza place when I was there over Xmas but I assumed it was the mushiness one would have to watch out for. I had a friend travel through Laos early last year who came undone after drinking some magic drink. Poor naive girl had absolutely no idea what she was drinking...she was very lucky nothing bad happened.
