Chutinant resigns from THAI board

Chutinant Bhirombhakdi, executive vice president of Singha Corporation, and member of Thai Airways International’s board of directors has resigned from the board since March 7, former THAI board chairman Ampon Kittiampon disclosed yesterday.

The former THAI chairman said he saw the resignation letter of Mr Chutinant on his working desk when he went to pack up his belongings after he resigned from the board chairman post.

He said as he has resigned from the chairmanship, effective March 10, he only asked THAI administration officials to forward the letter to the new board chairman, Air Force commander-in-chief Air Chief Marshal Prachin Chantong, for consideration.

Mr Ampon said that the resignation of Mr Chutinant has nothing to do with politics or being pressured.

He said if politics was a reason, Mr Chutinant should have resigned long ago.

He said in fact, the term in office of Mr Chutinant is due to expire end of this month and therefore it was not political issue to resign.

Leaving the sinking ship?

His term was over at the end of the month so he was going anyway. He may not have agreed with the appointment of an airforce senior officer as chairman. As someone from the private sector, he may have wanted a more qualified business person appointed.

The Thai military should not be involved in the management of a supposedly civilian business. I don't think the problems originate with the government. Rather, IMO a lot of it has to do with military personnel taking on positions that they may be unqualified for.

All brilliant UNTIL you made the excuse for the government involvement. Should have said BOTH government and military should not be involved with the actual running of it. OR personally reaping the free benefits from it.

....if you look at who is related to whom....and controls what in Thailand.....there are only a handful of people 'running the show'....

...and keeping behind the scenes......'competing'......in the same industry......

...but of course....we are not supposed to know.......

Does he (and his family?) now qualify for free first-class travel with Thai for life??

Of course......well....that is until Thai shuts the doors!

THAI is the national flag carrier. Regardless of financial hopelessness, the unconditional pride of Thailand will never allow the airline to close its doors. It will remain heavily subsidised for ever.

Thai Airways are on their ass. What the hell does an airforce guy know about running a large airline. Makes me laugh, the government tops have a bad ego, The government should stay out of running the airline get an international recruiting company to find a guy world wide to run Thai Airways and stop all government people and many others getting free flights when they want to travel. If it is government business the government should be made to pay for the flights. Also Thai have far to many staff. You see so many of them at Bangkok airport just walking around and at the bottom of a Thai airways checking in row their are around 5-6 there doing shit all, before if you have over weight you went there to pay now they send you to the main Thai booking office with about 40+ staff in there.

They will never come back to what they were 10 yrs ago if the government do not take their noses out. I used to have gold card but left them a few years back.

It is no wonder there are so many farang managers here in Thailand.... that is because most of the Thai executives - primarily men in the higher echelons - are lousy managers, who just think they are entitled and don't have to work.

In fact, because everything at work is about SENIORITY and nothing is about COMPETENCE, the only way to get promoted is to ass kiss your way to the top....

I see it all the time.... like bringing apples your teacher to suck up so that they like you, never mind that you are incompetent.

Until Thai executives learn that hard work and excellence is important... the farang executive is here to stay! And they love it here! Great chance to raise a family and also have a harem of young sexy girlfriends without anyone knowing it!

Before you climb on your high horse find out WHO appointed this officer to the office.

Would it have been the military? Very unlikely as they don't have the power or authority to do so.

Maybe it was somebody from the caretaker? government such as Yingluck who actually believes they have the power and the right to do so and never mind the legal authority.
