BANGKOK: -- A teenage boy who allegedly robbed a convenience store has been apprehended by a policeman who happened to drive past the suspect.

The police received the robbery alert at around 04.40 from staff at a 7-11 store in Langsuan district of Chumphon province. Police officers later arrived at the store, which locates opposite Suan Sri Wittaya School, to find frightened staff waiting for the police.

According to the staff, a teenage boy wearing black T-shirt and a yellow mask stormed into the store and held up the staff at knife-point, demanding money. The staff then handed the suspect 500 baht in cash before the suspect sped away on a motorcycle.

Shortly after the police radioed other units in the vicinity to locate the suspect, they were contacted by Pol.Col. Phakkaphon Nawitsri, a police commander at Langsuan Police Station, that he has encountered and apprehended the suspect on his way to inspect the crime scene.

According to Pol.Col. Phakkaphon, the suspect was driving past him on the opposing lane when he recognised the man's description, so he proceeded to instruct the suspect to stop his vehicle and surrender himself. Pol.Col. Phakkaphon said the suspect initially ran away, but the officer gave chase and eventually arrested the suspect.

Pol.Col. Phakkaphon added that he was not armed at the time.

CCTV footage and witnesses' testimony confirmed that the suspect was the man who robbed the store, police said.

The police identified him as a 15-years old local resident who is currently enrolled in a "famous school". According to the police, the suspect confessed that he committed the robbery because he needed money to spend at internet and game cafe.

So after initially instructing the offender to stop his motorcycle, the thief then 'ran away'?

Did his motorcycle have legs?... Did the officer gallop after him in his Toyota pickup?

I am waiting for calls to ban the internet and gaming parlors since they are obviously the culprit in this case This is what made the otherwise well adjusted student to commit the crime

For the love of god PLEASE do not blame the parents for creating a self indulgent adolescent . They where too busy protesting at Sutheps Rallies giggle.gif

"Cop Catches Thief", Headline News ?, amazing Thailand.

This wasn't "headline news" as you witheringly assert, it was one of many news reports that some people find interesting and relevant perhaps to their particular location. Just because you chose to dismiss it as superfluous doesn't mean it deserved your derisory sarcasm.

And by using your implied logic any case at all that resulted in an arrest should not be reported because it is something that you expect to happen in the normal course of events without comment. Brilliant.

Hear hear. How dare someone critisise a story for being trivial.

You are right...all so depressingly predictable and totally boring comments from the same crowd

There are those that applaud these type stories and those that criticize them. Perhaps the critics would applaud had the policeman ignored the passing suspect.

I hear the applause and disregard the critics.

A better headline than crap about Cops arresting Beach Road Lady Boy's blah, blah, blah. Well done to the Cop however if he had no knife when arrested I wonder if they retraced his steps from the location to try and locate the knife. Obvious, but maybe not to the BIB. School holidays and needed the funds to spend his many hours, like a large percentage of kids on holiday in internet cafe's. Owners of these Cafe's must love school holidays. You just need to look outside the front door of these places to see how may shoes/flip flops are there.
